9 years plus and it happened once. It cost a "whopping" 50 bucks for a 300 $ worth package.....

I guess it depends what the OPs' package contained! Laughing

I believe the charging of freight plus value of goods is universal.

Same thing happened to a Korean friend of mine in Oz: random inspection by customs followed by duty slapped on his package, ooh er, fnaarh.

It actually happened to my mother back home when we sent her an x-mas package in 2004....it cost her 175 dollars for the package (value: 250$ + freight).
