And for two near end of year snapshots of my Friday. I have a year 7 (13 years old) Math class. We are revising simple math they have either forgotten or missed. Tables, addition, subtraction, multiplication and long division on paper. They are working hard. When worksheets are finished correctly students are allowed to fire them at the bin. Sort of a reward.
Somehow the class, with my complicity, breaks into an all out paper fight which ends with me as the main target in the corner of room, face to the wall saying "They didnt tell me it would be like this in teachers college".
After that I settle them down and they finish the lesson with 20 more minutes (75 minute lessons) hard work.
End of year 8 Art class, last period of the week. Everything is packed up and we are waiting for the bell. I have a students tennis ball, and am playing keep off, where I hold the ball out to be snatched but keep it moving back and forth to fast to be taken.
5 students jump onto my arms, two per arm, and the extra one taking the ball.
I can lose these small fun battles as I have the students well under control. If I didnt, I would never play these games.

Can't believe how many of you nerds took the time to respond to each comparison, point by point, like it was supposed to be something to be taken literally.
Here guys, I have a link that will keep you busy for a long, long time.
http://www.mudslide.net/TopTen/
Top Ten Things I Have Learned From "Dancing With The Stars" presented by Jerry Springer
10. Sometimes your best choreographer is Johnny Walker
Everyone knows Johnny Walker is whisky, not a choreographer!
9. There are no disputes that can't be settled by dancing -- think about it North Korea
Oh right, like dancing has solved any dispute outside of West Side Story. I'm sure Kim Jong Il is going to just give up power if No Mu Hyeon and George Bush do a good enough duo.
8. The fitness training will come in handy on my show when breaking up fights between hookers
Right, like Springer actually broke up fights on his show. He always had Steve do that for him.
7. I'm allergic to sequins
No one is actually allergic to sequins. How stupid.
6. You do much better if you take the vitamins supplied by Barry Bonds' trainer
Is this supposed to be a joke about steroids? Right, like steroids are going to help you dance better.
5. The definition of "star" has really loosened up
4. This might be why the terrorists hate us
3. I have a whole new respect for the exotic dancers on my show
2. If there's one thing more exciting than being on "Dancing With The Stars," it's no longer being on "Dancing With The Stars"
1. I need a new agent
I'll let you guys finish it up for me. We'll send it to Dave and teach him a lesson. |

| My highschool, back in the late 60s, early 70s had a shooting range in the basement. |
At 11 years old at my school we *had* to fire bolt-action rifles at a target. We were taught to strip down and re-assemble SA-80 rifles. I didn't stay in the CCF so I didn't get to shoot the SA-80s, they were for the older kids.
We threw flash-bang grenades, wore army outfits, had camo clothing, threw smoke grenades and so on. The older students who stayed in the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) got to shoot the SA-80s too. (an SA-80 is an assault rifle, the British equiavalent to an M16 I think)
I went to a posh school though. I don't think they trusted state school ('public school') kids with those weapons though. |
