I had been working part time as a security guard at an apartment complex for the past 3 weeks.
There has been alot of drama in the past 2 days...
Yesterday (my birthday, in fact) an 87-year-old man out open his screen and took a dive from his apartment on the 7th Floor...fortunate for me, it didn't happen on my shift.
Today a security guard from the first shift noticed some newspapers building up outside a tenant's apartment and a strong oder of rotten fish. But it came at the end of his shift and I was the one who looked into it. I got the apartment master key.
When I entered the apartment, I encountered my first cadaver.
The man, in his 60's, had died in his sleep while in a chair listening to the radio (it was still on).
But what was grusome was that he was 5 days "fresh"
I had seen stuff like that on the net, but seeing it for the first time up close got to me.
And THE SMELL!!!!!
I finished work an hour and a half after and I still have that oder in my nostrils, I mean, it is difficult to forget it.
The police and the coroner came and examined the body and released the body to the family, who in turned released the body to the funeral home to be prepared for immediate burial (since the cause of death was deemed natural, the coroner decided an autopsy was not necessary)
I won't forget today |

Did they perform any special ceremony in the room?
eg in laos monks will arrive soon after to bless the place where a death happened.
They must have some unique tradition or superstition here... |

You got hired in Korea to be a security guard in an apartment complex?
Are you Korean, half-Korean? So your main job is obviously as an EFL teacher if you're hanging out here then. What a horrible find. 5 days "fresh" !! Ha, aha! |

Wow!
People still think of me as being in Korea....
Well, I will be there soon enough (either next December, 2007 or Janaury,2008).
But this happened on the job here in CT.
This is one of only a handful of states where a security guard needs a security guard license and can make onward up to $20 an hour (I myself am making about $15 an hour as an unarmed guard)
In Korea?
Forget it! The highest pay would only be about 11,000 won an hour and thats for armed guard (with a pepper spray gun)
I still get shivers thinking about it...... |

T.a.S.
It comes to show you that some people tend to forget most of what they learned AFTER college......
Sad...... |

Have you served in the military, lastat? In my experience (my friend would be on call 24h a day when he was an IBM technician, so I ended up going to banks a lot while hanging out with him, sometimes while he was giving me a drive to the army base), many security guards in Canada have served in the military or are also in the reserves.
My father would be the one that they'd send in burnt out houses to retrieve the dead bodies when he was a volunteer fireman (it was a long time ago, so I'd guess that would explain the lack of consideration for investigative techniques). The chief figured he'd have the stomach for it since my father was a biologist. Once, he had to pull out 4 dead bodies out of a house on Christmas eve. It totally ruined his Christmas dinner because the roast turkey reminded him of the bodies. |

Why do you post about stuff like that. I mean, yeah this is the off topic forum but there should still be some vague connection to korea within the posting. Unless of course you are face to face friends with a lot of posters on this board and this is a way to let everyone know what you are up to. Otherwise it's like otis and his truck driving stories.
Weird. |

Really? I've seen ads for apartment security guards offering up to 2.7 million per month. I suppose they could have been lying of course... |
