Right now I'm involved in a Expat group here in busan called "Round Face".
We are putting on a couple nights of an expat written and performed production of comedy sketches of life in Korea.

I was just wondering....

Does the Seoul Community have anything like that? If so...WHO is involved and when do you have performances?

If not....why the fck not???

Why not go on the road, touring universities if you're any good? I'm dying for some real theatre (We have student productions, but they're either in Korean or fluff) I can get my teeth into!

A couple of friends of mine were involved in a play called "Waiting for Godot" which played in Seoul for almost a month in the spring (forget the exact location - in Seoul though). The director is a guy named Bernard something, and the play was so succesful it got invited to play in Singapore for a couple of nights.

This Bernard guy also put on a play last year at the now defunct "Guiness Bar" near Yaksu station, where there was a modest stage set up at the back of the bar. I forget the name of the play, but it centred on a white painting that was at the root of the conversations in the play.

We are pleased to inform you that we will be presenting Campbell
Armstrong's play And They Used to Star in Movies in December at
The Wolfhound in Itaewon.

And They Used to Star in Movies is a one-act comedy that deals
with fame, celebrity, drug addiction, infidelity and friendship.
The play focuses on Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck,
childhood stars of yesterday. They made a fortune for their
studios and their images adorned everything from t-shirts to
schoolbags. They were huge ... so what happened to them?

Mickey hasn't had a hit in years. Minnie has seen and done them
all. While Donald, having overcome his speech impediment, is
Mr.Successful. The icons meet in a bar to mix their former
glories and past humiliations in a combustible cocktail of
Hollywood excess.

When this original piece was staged 30 years ago, the Walt
Disney Corporation tried to ban it.

Admission is 12,000 won for all performances. A dinner menu
will be available prior to each show.

Performances: December 2nd-17th 2006

Fridays 8th 15th 7:30pm and 9:30pm
Saturdays 2nd 9th 16th 6:30pm and 8:30pm
Sundays 3rd 10th 17th 6:30pm and 8:30pm

** Directions to The Wolfhound can be found on the map in the attached file. Take Exit 4 at Itaewon Station, go past Gecko's and turn right at the first side street. The Wolfhound can be seen on the right after 20 metres or so.

Wow, real foreign theatre in Busan? How can I get involved? Auditions coming soon? I'm moving there 12/9 and would love to lend my talents.

There's also a group called Seoul Players if I'm not mistaken. Keep meaning to check out the groups and pick up a hobby that doesn't involve booze (at least not until the cast party) but that haunting memory of being in a play back in uni and spending 6 nights a week up in the theater to do a little 4 line part still lingers.
