| This from the International Job Board got me thinking ... how many of you would consider taking this job, assuming, of course, you were qualified? The money seems a bit low for what surely could be described as a less than stable living and working environment. |

I noticed that they mentioned the word "secure" several times to emphasize this.
For 30-40k a year in "secure" Iraq, NO FRICKEN WAY!
I may think about doing it for cool million bucks a year though.
A truck driver in Iraq can make more than 10K a month. But you have to drive and haul fuel tanks. YIKES! |

| I think it would be a fascinating experience. I'd consider it (with danger pay!) if I knew that Iraqi people understood that not all white folks are American (unlike in Korea where I am always assumed to be a miguk saram). |

If you're white and non-muslim, you are considered infidel. They will kidnap you and hold you for ransom. When they get their ransom money, they will send you home beheaded. |

As an English teacher, NO! For Halliburton or Dynacorp, YES! For 70 - 80 US a year I'd clean up after those towel heads any any of the week! |

The job is in Kurd territory. The area has been autonomous and stable for a number of years. You are more likely to be hit by a bus in Seoul than blown up by a bomb in this part of Northern Iraq.
Are we sure the salary is $25,000 to $30,000 US dollars per year? |

| Regardless of what and where, you would only be secure under the protection of the Americans. There is no way I would ever do a job that depended upon US military security. They should find an American to do that job. |

| I would probably do it for 60 or 70 thousand, not whatever they were offering. You can make 30 000 in Korea pretty easily, without the crazy risk and less than ideal living conditions. |

While I think I know what you're getting at, that's a slightly ironic thing for someone working in South Korea to say. |

If it's so safe I'd love to send all the anti-war teachers over there...that way they could tell the kurds that they how the war was immoral and that they should have Saddam back...
there's a part of me that would love to go now but I mentioned it to my chick and she freaked.... |
