Apparently you have to be careful which "Janghaksa" (municipal director of education) you get. I came to Korea and was supposed to start, but the "Janghaksa" decided that everybody should wait for all teachers to come at the same time. Now everybody is delayed indefinitely, and we were told if we are going to whine about it, to get a new job.

It never occurred to me that there could be problems with a public school.

Are you housed and being paid?If so,enjoy your holiday.

If not, assuming you have no visa issued yet, take them up on their offer. There's plenty of public school positions all over the country.

Where are you located? Please post the name of the school in question and keep us informed.

Also, are you really getting paid? If yes, I don't see what the problem is.

I guess the problems mean that they're not getting paid while waiting. Otherwise, there wouldn't be any problems.

Collectivly tell him that everyone is gonna do such as that and I'm willing to bet, he'll moderate his posture, somewhat.

We are not getting paid yet. It isn't one public school, it is a whole city of public schools. We weren't given the exact school name since it could be one of 5 schools. That was why the "Janghaksa" couldn't sign the contract until the school was chosen.

Normally, that would make me run. However, since it was a Public school I thought it would be OK.

I thought it would be wise to give people a heads up before they come to Korea.

are they atleast paying you some kind of living expense then? if not, like someone else said, just start looking for another job.

and if it really bugs you, tell them you have plans and you must return to the usa in exactly a year (make up something like grad school, or an internship/job) so you must start your one year contract ASAP.

This is all kind of "strangey-funny" considering this semester has only about 4 weeks to go until winter break... Rolling Eyes

No need to get all heavy and uncool, IMHO! "We" those of us posting on this topic, I suppose.

What?
From the OP's first post when he/she says 'everybody', I got the impression that maybe it was a group who all came to Korea together, and I just wondered how many were affected.

Sounds fishy to me.

Do public schools break their own laws and bring in foreign teachers without an E-2? Embarassed

Confused I'm curious as to where this is too! Shocked

Seems it's double nought secret info and quite frankly, I'm beginning to adopt an attitude of caring less! More to point, losing interest.. I guess the OP set he hooks at the right level....Sad
