A lot of my students aren't familiar with foreign music at all. I'd like to bring my MP3 player and have them hear some hard rock before class. (They might not even be interested.) So what are some ultimate songs with great guitar riffs that you'd recommend? I'm thinking.

"Paranoid" or "Iron Man" - Black Sabbath
"Smoke on the Water" - Deep Purple
"Night Train" - Guns n' Roses
"The Trooper" - Iron Maiden

Again, it has to be something that slaps them across the face and not put them to sleep (i.e. Pink Floyd).

Any requests?

Papa Roach - To Be Loved
AC/DC - Shook Me All Night Long
Hendrix - Foxy Lady (No, maybe too sedate)
Ramones - Rock'n'Roll High School
Jane's Addiction - Caught Stealing
Ozzy - Crazy Train
maybe something by The Who or KISS

I'd say try "She Loves My Cock" by Jackal, but you probably couldn't play that without getting fired.

Steppenwolf "Born to Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride".
The Doors "Break on Through".
Any thing audio visual with Jimi Hendrix playing a burning guitar.
If you can show them the entire Pink Floyd's "The Wall" perhaps with only an audio track to the song "Dirty Woman"

Are you looking to broaden their musical horizons or to shake them up a little?

Tht old hip-hop song "Jump Around" might be fun to get the kids hopping.

ABBA's "Take a Chance" is good for hosrelaughs.

Why not just subject them to Motorhead for half an hour?

They won't like it. I've tried introducing them to a wider variety of music and generally the reaction is a bit of a laugh then they just tune out. a better way is to bring a guitar to school and teach them all the songs you learnt as a kid.

Stuff like hard rock is picked up as adults, kids aren't going to have any real appreciation of it.

AC/DC - Thunderstruck.

The kids could all yell "Thunder" . They don't need to understand the rest of the song. It's more important that they just enjoy it.

i've played the kids slayer, and they get a kick out of it. most of the boys either blanche and go "ew" but some go "oh wow... yelling!!! adults being BAD!!!" and it's exciting.

but if they're just doing some busy-work in class i'll put on some quieter indie-rock stuff like built to spill or pinback, or some folk. they seem to enjoy it and sing along.

"we will rock you!" is generally a hit and if you watch this, little kids love the ramones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuvzWYhMfAc

If you just walk in and play Cowboys from Hell (or my silly avatar, Venom!), you might get the fun of shocking them, but they won't get into the music. You need to ease them in slowly; play some pop, some 60s, something they can sing along with or swing to, and then turn up the fuzz level. Although maybe, yes, something like Thunderstruck that lets them get involved physically might go over really well.

That's a great idea! Any song where they can chime in on a key word.
