Is it worth it to get my TEFL certificate before I go to Korea, or can I get just as good a job without one? Does any place offer a suplimental TEFL or TESOL course that you can take while you are over there? I have seen several sites online that offer distance certifications online, but would this be discriminated against as opposed to the month long or 6 week courses that you can take in, say, Phuket or the Czech Repulic (or any of a thousand other places)? Eventually I know that I will want to go somewhere other than Korea and so I may need it then, but should I just get it out of the way now?

Do it now. It's not at all necessary for finding work in Korea, but if you want to work anywhere else, a lot of better places only count post-training experience. And, of course, it can't hurt.

And forget the other certificates, do CELTA (or Trinity). It doesn't matter where you do it, your certificate will come out with a huge 'University of Cambridge' logo at the top.

In Ontario it was before Harris encouraged a lot of the deadwood teachers to retire.

Where are you planning on teaching?
If it is a kiddie hagwon I wouldn't bother unless the school doesn't have a set curriculum.
If you do decide to do a TESOL cert, don't do an online course.
Most employers want your certificate course to include teaching practise.
