From an earlier post it was stated that the US was the 21st Empire.
Can someone explain if the US is the 21st Empire what are the previous 20 Empires?

i was considering the OPs suggestion. So I thought, hey! I'll look for a news item in as tranquil and small a place as I can find. Something to discuss.
What came to mind was Bermuda. Keep in touch with news about the place. So I went online to the Gazette and what to my wonders eyes did appear? Lead story about an American embezzler......

Meaning???? It has no meaning. and so does I think, the suggestion of posting more of certain items. Post whatever you want, much will be about America for many of the reasons always stated. But mostly because it is our stomping ground and cultural soil. Nothing wrong about that and criticizing America does not mean you don't criticize a lot else in the world or think America is the worst......... I think many here should get that straight in their heads.

Yes the US is THE Global power.
I am glad you all admit this.
Just about every news paper in the owrld will have a story about the US on it's front page on any given day. The world is obsesses with the US. People around the world watch movies from Hollywood, buy and use US made Microsoft Windows. If you are a smart international investor, a piece of your portfolio will include US stocks. The business od America is business, the business of the world is America. The US can produce all the food the world needs, the world can't figure out how to distribute it. When the US tries to distribute the food (Somalia) the world gets in the way siding withthe war lords.
Is there any other country you would rather see playing this role?
China? Russia? France? Iran? India? Venezuala? Australia? Canada?
Somalia? Islam? Vatican?
Paint the picture of your rosey world without the US.
Lead follow or get out of the way, audacity is the way.

I think you are wrong. We don't need audacity in this world that is much closer and more aware. What we need is communication, listening and a common appeal towards principles of humanity and individual rights.
To achieve this, we don't need ANY country as the leader, world power, emperor et al.
Each country is important and free to determine its own fate. Unfortunately, in the name of economics, the U.S. trades with its strong arm....my version of events and we don't need it anymore......

Yes, but the world recognizes the US as the leader. They write about he US in the paper everyday. They expect the US to feed the world to share the wealth. But, when they try to distribute the food thay are stopped by the warlords see Somalia.
The US invest money and time into oil producing countries such as Venezuala and Mexico and Iran. Then these resources are "Nationalized" and the resource is squandered away.
The world certainly does not want to lead, and the world certainly does not want the US to become Isolated.
The world just want to critisize the world Leader with no other solutions to offer.
So we will walk softly and carry a big stick. I think you will see a long period of walking softly.
