What is the best Christmas song to teach your students? Something with easy lyrics and enjoyable.

Jingle Bell Rock is a pretty good one.

Any other suggestions?

Hey,

I find that my students can easily sing the first verse of 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas'. Many of them have heard it before, so they already knew parts of the song. I didn't bother teaching any other verses, and they seemed quite content on singing the first verse AGAIN AND AGAIN!

12 Days of Christmas?

You can turn it into a round. There is lots of repitition which is good for younger kids.

I have to second the 12 days of x-mas. Yeah, seems pretty stupid on the face of it but works well as a whole class singing activity.

Play the song (or I have a powerpoint on my site, hit the Santa Claus, the pics explain what he is sending -- insert the song from the sound file, Alvin and the chipmunks). After, students in pairs or 3, 4s are given a part of the song. Hand it out written big on a piece of paper. When they get to their part, they hold it up and sing. Keeps repeating and the students get better at it. Everyone sings together "on the ... day of christmas my true love sent to me.....".

You might even try the powerpoint, one easy one, two hard ones, i put on the site.

I quite like "Let It Snow".
The Jessicsa Simpson version is quite good and you can find the video online.
Some nice vocab in there and great for gap fill or rearranging.

I've been using Silver Bells as a warm-up excercise before doing review quizes this week and it works well because the lyrics are very clear and slow. It's also a very easy song to sing.

Jingle Bell Rock - old school version.

Feliz Navidad - they get a kick out of pretending they know spanish.

Aren't those all a bit difficult for younger kids? With the exception of start of Jingle Bell I guess...

How about Santa Claus is Coming Tonight? Fairly obvious actions to go with it too...

They can learn any song with enough practice. I've taught Jingle Bells, Santa Clause is coming to town.. and i've heard kindergarten kids sing Grandma Got run over by a Reindeer. It's all about practice.. O Christmas Tree is a slow one too.. just make sure that you don't hate the song or else it'll drive you insane listening to it over and over and over again Smile

How about "Santa's wife gave me the HIV" that is one of my all-time favorites.
