I've been teaching here for 4 years. I haven't taught a wide variety of children but I've got at least a 1000 different ones under my belt, including a dozen or so June Youngs

The June Young Postulate:

"June Young"s don't care about English; are terrible at it; hate the teacher; or any combination of the aforementioned traits.

Thoughts?

Who's June Young?

(cos I'm nearly sure she was in my class last month....dark brown/black hair, brown eyes, sallow skin...does that ring a bell?)

That is just too funny. When I was teaching at an international school in China I had a lot of Korean students. They were great kids. There was classroom harmony until a new kid came to town: Jun Young. What a nighmare that kid was. Little agressive ajosshi in training. All the other kids wang-ta (ed) his ass prior to coming to our school. He told me this his first day at school. Anyway, two years later he's apparently a brand new kid...funny, polite, and great English. My good friend taught him the year after I did...he was horrible for half the year she had him and then he finally turned himself around (he won the turn-around award that year).

There was also a grade nine girl who came to the school and refused to speak English and would terrorize the few white kids at the school. Anyway, she also became a new kid. By the time I got to the school she was winning awards for everything...female athlete of the year, highest GPA, etc.

I just recently had a June Young. He was a bit of wannabe class clown but I always shut him down before he ever had the chance. He tried to do well about 70% of the time and succeded. The other 30% of the time he sat back and tried to pretend he was invisible because he didn't have his homework.

What is in a name?
