I just demanded to be recompensed money for taxi fare that I have paid to go on business trips.
After much phoning round, they tell me fine. We owe you 7000 won. It will be paid into your account next week.
Looks like I might get a reputation as a stinge! I just like to keep them on their toes... |

If it were once in a blue moon I wouldn't bother but if it happened fairly often I'd mention something to my 'minder'. So far they've been very good about that kind of thing. |

Every city is different, but according to my co-teacher, business trips are compensated at a set rate (everwhere she's worked - only three different cities in Gyunggido but might help you).
If any teacher has to go somewhere for a four hours or more, say to a meeting or an open class, the shool pays 10,000. For an 8 hour day, 20,000. If you go to a different city, say Seoul to Suwon, 20,000.
Here they recently raised it from a base at 5,000 last year to 10,000 this year. This has been added to my monthly cheque.

If you give and inch....
It's not really a question of being petty, it's that as soon as they see you give a little here, they expect a mile here, there and everywhere else.
You have to be kind of "petty" as a sort of self-defense mechanism. |

Well..if the trip was part of your duties with the school and they requested you take it then you acted right.
If this business trip was of your own initiative...that is a different issue. |

If you're in Gyeonggi-Do you get 10,000 for each business trip. Start signing up for open classes! |

Not everybody does. Only if you travel at your own expense. |
