We live between Itaewon and Haebonchong.... Had our place broken into Friday night... 2 lap tops (1 a white Mac I-Book) 2 digicams, 2.5 mill in cash and suglasses.....

Anyone had a similar thing happen and actually recovered stuff? We called the cops, they dusted, etc..... but so far to no avail..

Any ideas where this stuff'd be sold....etc??

Spare me the stupid comments....only something constructive please....

Sorry to hear about that.

People are always going on about how safe Korea is, but I have never heard of so many break-ins and other crimes in my life. Rolling Eyes

My apartment was broken into in summer this year and I lost a lot of valuable stuff (including my computer).

My experience with the police was that they - while meaning well - are completely and utterly useless. I never heard back from them, and I'm guessing I will never see my things again.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

How often do the police find your stolen property in North America? Not bloody often. While a total bummer, this kind of activity is not limited to Korea.

Well I wasn't going to retell a story I told in another thread about a break-in only a couple of days ago, but if you're going to get all sarcastic. Rolling Eyes

The police turned up at my place. My doorknob and lock were in pieces on the floor, the door kicked open. The police would not believe me when I told them they came through the door. They insisted they must have come in a window that was impossible to reach.

They dusted a bottle of olive oil that WAS IN A BOX at the time of the robbery, and clearly had not been touched. They didn't bother looking for fingerprints anywhere else - on anything that had clearly been handled, for example.

And then they left, having no evidence because they chose to ignore it all.

So that's why I say they are useless.

And I'm not from North America. Rolling Eyes

Property crimes are rarely solved in western countries, however Korean "police are as useless as teets on a bull". They couldn't "catch the clap in a whorehouse on saturday night". Can anyone think of anymore really great euphimisms to describe the K-fuzz?

i used to live in that exact same area last year. (right behind the new delhi restaurant.) my bf & i came back from vacation over christmas to find that his laptop and about W1000K was stolen. (my laptop and cash untouched.)
we went to the police in itaewon and they said "yea, we know a burgler who specializes in laptops. he looks like such and such". i said "well who is he?". thats when i realized they know of a burgler. nice to see they care.
they did write us up a report so my bf claimed $500 in insurance. they were really nice, but as everyone else says, useless. the sucky thing- my guy's a programmer and just finsihed a project before he left and had no backup. it really really really sucked.

so op, i hope for you that you had no irreplacable stuff on there. money is money, but pictures and (3 months work of) programming is a kaeseki to lose.
