OK... I have in my hands an "Exit Order" not a "Letter of Release". The immigration office made sure to tell me that I have 2 weeks to leave Korea and took away my ARC. I am supposed to carry my "Exit Order" and passport with me at all times.

My Korean coteacher also told me that it is OK for me to work tomorrow with this EXIT ORDER... is this illegal or legal?

It seems pretty illegal to me, but the way this whole thing has progressed I wouldn't doubt if they just told me that to keep me at the school a bit longer.

I also just went to my future school to give them a copy of the order so that they can begin requesting my visa issuance number for their contract. The head honcho there also said that it was OK to work on an EXIT ORDER for a couple days, even a week if necessary.

Is there a difference between a Letter of Release and an Exit Order?

hmmmm...seems like no would be the answer. I have no idea but it seems like your visa has been taken away from you. I wonder what would happen to you if you were caught teaching with an exit order....50 lashes or another exit order.....
I hope someone can answer this because I want to know, too.

The exit order means that your Visa (period of sojurn) has expired. Therefore, no, it's not okay.

Check the expiry date on your ARC. If you are past that date, you are not legal.

Did you get fired? I'd tell them to get on the meat if that were the case. It seems to me that you had better cease or maybe face some very unfavorable circumstances. At least have them clarify it to you. Or to us, for that matter..

Then call Immigration and ask them. Maybe you can get a straight answer (but then again, maybe not).

Watch you don't get fined for not having your ARC (at the airport) when you exit the country. Better ask about that, if I were you! Be sure to get some sort of explanation in writing on why to don't have the ARC to submit to the airport authorities. Be sure not to take any "oral" reassurances from your employer...."oh, no problem, they will let you leave w/out hassle"! I believe the fine is 100,000 or perhaps 200,000 won. It's just the sort of "present" your school would love to give you on your exit, especially if you quit! And the local immigration dept might have very well suggested it.... Very Happy

First of all, yes, you can work on an exit order. While your visa is being cancelled, you are still here on some kind of visa, and require a sponsor. Otherwise, you'd be out of the country already. No visa= goodbye. "So you are still being sponsored by whoever was sponsoring you before", said the voice of experience, "and can continue working."

Second, don't ask for legal or immigration advice on this site. Why, you might ask? Well, look at all the people who answered in this thread with the "right" answer!! Cripes, only one person suggested you call immi and ask yourself. Next time, do yourself a big freakin' favor and head over to efl-law.com/forum. Get a real answer, not a bunch of useless crap. This kind of stuff is too serious to ask a group of newbies and trolls.

You shouldn't have any problems at the airport. I did it in July. I handed over my passport and my exit order to the guy at the ticket counter. He was confused so he called over his supervisor and then they worked it out. I had no problems with immigration. I can't help you with anything else so good luck.
