I will be there. I've had it marked on the calendar for awhile. It'll be the fourth Resfest I've been to.
A quick list of cool things I've seen in the past at Resfest for the benefit of any av peope who've not heard of it:
- Scratch, a turntablism documentary
- Sprout, a wicked movie about riding waves (not just surfing)
- hundreds of videos from Korean and Japanese video design talents
- a collection of works from Jonathan Glazer, who's done videos for people like UNKLE and Radiohead, plus a tonne of Guiness commercials.
- a collection of works by Chris Cunningham, who's done some great videos for Bjork and Aphex Twin
Resfest comes from Res magazine. I think it may be owned by Palm Pictures, a company that releases the coolest DVDs, including compilations of works by some of the best video directors around, including Michel Gondry, director of Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. |

Well that was pretty good. Made it to about 9 sessions over the weekend and saw some cool stuff. The only negatives were the soundsystem which lacked presence and needed some tuning, the seriousness of the whole thing (we got told to be quiet when the coldcut and wavetwisters clips came on and we got a little talkative...I didn't realise we were all meant to be passive observers) and the radiohead thing that took up too much time in the early hours of Saturday morning. Besides that it was all good. A little bit pop oriented for my liking but still good. The Cinema Electronica session was my highlight...liked the Vitalic, Coldcut, Gnarles Barkley and Venetian Snares clips in particular. I had a good laugh during the Venetian Snares one when everyone thought the computer had crashed (the guys got a sense of humour). The "By Design" and "Fear and Trembling" sessions had some good films as well.
Overall a good weekend of digital entertainment. |
