Diane Sawyer's special ws a big apologist peace for North Korea. It does not make any mention of the northern Korean suffering, of the concentration camps, of anything. Its clear to these people are completely brainw ashed by the Kimists
In One scene at a gym they say they dont work out for themselves but to be able to contribute to labor of the state. In the Salon the head salon chick tells all the females to criticize the catalogue of western clothing.
They all also think America is the enemy, and even a preacher says this.
WHy cant someone just get rid of Kim Jong Il.

Diane Sawyer was a guest in the North, and undoubtedly dogged and scrutinised by "cultural guides".

I haven't seen it, but it sounds like it's enough for her to show average Norks being brainwashed as a less direct condemnation that would get past the censors. No, she didn't demand an explanation and tour of a concentration camp, because that would get denials, and a cancellation of the trip.

What did you expect her to do?

When She reutnred to the US though she was free to do as she pleased on her show, but she tried to paint NK as a place where people dont suffer, wherelife is normal and everyone is just mis nderstood. it was bull/

So you wanted an opinion piece/editorial program from her? Is that right?

you then preceed to describe how the program illustrates it. Yet then you add,

So how about providing some examples? The ones you have provided makes it sound like NK was portrayed as anything but normal, and the show instead shows the DPRK filled with "brain-washed people."

I realize this sounds like an ad hominem attack but, were you sober when you typed this? Your typing on both your posts on this thread was pretty bad.

Anyway, looks like you have an agenda (that damn liberal media!) and you thought this was the perfect example. *yawn*

that's the media for you. if you expect anything more, then good luck finding it.

If you want in-depth, there is PBS, some magazines, and other news sources.

Not surprised at all ABC gave a rather superficial (keyword: superficial, which is different from "apologist") report on the DPRK.

What I always find amusing, in a pathetic sort of way, is how Left leaning posters to this forum just can't be bothered with instances of media bias yet raise all holy hell when a story slants to the right. As Bernard Goldberg, a veteran CBS journalist, so aptly described in his book on mainstream media arrogance, most of the Left-leaning followers of the press grew so accustomed to hearing their own viewpoint that they failed to realize--and continue having trouble realizing--how biased its reporting tended and tends to be.

yes, such an impressive job on his part: he found a few examples (out of hundreds of stories each year) that showed poor word choice and bias. WOW, earth-shattering stuff there.

The brainwashed comment was MY observation, not something the show mentioned.

Throughout the show she paints NK in a normal light, first taking a jab at our youth while showing a video of NK youths goose stepping in school uniform, "In North Korea, children learn discipline, not video games!"
She shows several NK bill boards glorfying KIS and KJI, but never shows any of the number of Anti-US billboards in Pyongyang.

Then she compares there youth to ours showing these small children playing musical instruments in school and what not.

She never considers the minder following them unusual, doesnt make mention of the fact that the city where this all is happening (pyongyang) Is NK's showpiece, or that the elite or those connected to them are the only ones allowed to live there, and she doesnt make any mention of the strict rules and regs the NK government likely placed on her.

Thats just a few, I don't have time to sit here and narrarate the whole show.

bucheon:

Judging from your meager response, you either didn't read or skimmed the contents online. Nice try. The book contains a plethora of examples and, besides, you haven't challenged my contention in any substantive way. Now go back to poking needles into your Rummy doll and dreaming of Dennis Kucinich as president. Rolling Eyes

May I please direct you to the following:

political spectrum thread

A plethora of examples? How many is considered a plethora? a dozen? a couple dozen?

Now that is substantial and note-worthy (seriously). I still wouldn't go as far as to call her an apologist, just really a poor journalist, and sympathetic towards the left. An apologist, to me, would be someone who would be excusing the regime (and/or north koreans) by saying, "this is what happens when a country is forced into isolation" or some crap like that.
