This is rather interesting. I've never been to Australia, but it would seem that there are as many British citizens there as there are Auzzies in the UK. I'm not surprised to see a relatively low number of them here, but I'm surprised by the map that Thailand isn't a high-proportion country, even though Japan is.

Country name Resident Britons
Australia 1,300,000
Spain 761,000
United States 678,000
Canada 603,000
Ireland 291,000
New Zealand 215,000
South Africa 212,000
France 200,000

I would add that most of the Britons are having a hard time in Australia, as they are doing so poorly in the current ashes series..... Smile

There are quite a few of us here in Jinju, we meet every Sunday at Mrs Miggins Tea Shop, drink Earl Grey and partake of some cucumber sandwiches. This is followed by a game of croquet (some more tea) and then off for a glass of sherry and a game of bridge.

Darlings, the British empire is still fully alive and functional

3400 Brits in South Korea, eh?

And 12 of them are pensioners!! Somehow I don't see Pohang as quite the same as Bournemouth!! Would you stay in Korea as retired? Maybe.....if you had nothing back home I suppose.

I know one such fellow here Eamo, a regular in 3 Alleys, and he seems as happy as a pig in the proverbial.

My dear she does have crumpets and they are delightful with some Anchor butter and a drop of my home-made jam. She also carries your own favourite.........PG Tips...............

Drop in and mention my name (Mrs Brady) and tell her that she can get Prep-H in Pohang (she's had problems with her arse onions again).

Brits - especially the English - are truly ubiquitous. Go to any planet in the entire universe and you'll come across British exports.

The fact that the English don't make a big thing about this - much less celebrate the fact - says much, I feel.

In Las Vegas, I met a dude from Essex who was an illegal immigrant in the States (he just couldn't be arsed going home) during the Reagan years. Regan made all illegals legal at some point and - bam! - Mr Essex has never left Vegas since. He hadn't lost his accent.

My mum has been in New Zealand for a year (nearly finished) and by the sounds of it there are more limies in NZ than there are kiwis.

One of the retired army guys in Itaewon (often in Seoul Pub) was from England originally - Plymouth if I recall.

The Britiish........the nomadic philanthropists...................argh yes.....................we gave the world many things...........fine tea's, poets, writers, architects, colonialism and slavery

Sir Christopher Wren
Will Shakespeare
Watts and Crick
Thomas Hardy
Sir Walter Raleigh
Winston Churchill
Paul Gascoine

...we travelled far and wide to many distant countries and plundered their natural resources and gave them all our wonderful language and culture (tea at 3 p.m., hot buttered scones and cricket..etc...etc).

God bless the Brits.....without us you wouldn't be here in Korea teaching our fine langauge

On second thoughts.....it would be a pretty good life. If you had company/family and weren't too old and infirm.

Soju hoju.......what are you on about??!! Did you really think I knew something about British pensioners in Pohang??!! Laughing
