Does anyone have any suggestions regarding staying germ free on the subway and in school?

I have a nasty ear infection.

Alcohol is a fine disinfectant. Keep your body well stocked at all times.

It's like kindergarten all over again. You're coming to a country which has germs your body hasn't made antibodies for yet. EXPECT to get sick for the first few months or so, then you should be ok. Of course taking normal precautions such a washing your hands and not touching your eyes or nose are good ideas!!

For someone who has been here for a while, you have no excuse not to know that kimchi cures everything.

Keep your ears covered. Contrary to popular belief, viruses enter your body through your ears, not your frontal orifices...

work out, eat well, sleep well and take solace in the fact that when you go home your immune system will have been exposed to almost every vareity of the common cold known to man.

I carry purell around with me, and whenever I ride a bus for a long time or fly on a plane or am otherwise exposed to germs for extended periods of time, I take a tablet of Airborne. Airborne was developed by a teacher for exactly this purpose, and it works wonders. Some people swear by Emergen-C. Either way, I promise it will help.

Ear infections come in two kinds, inner, which is much more serious, and outer. If you have an inner ear infection, go to a doctor, and make sure you get some strong antibiotics!!!!

Zinc lozenges. I brought a bunch with me as I'm not sure if they're available in Korea. I swear by them.

Instead of running around with disinfectant and stuff, I think it's better just to let yourself get exposed to these things. It'll help build your immune system and then you won't have to worry about it so much.

My first year in Korea I felt like I constantly had a cold. This is my second year and I've only had one brief cold so far.

When you feel a cold starting to come on use hydrogen peroxide as ear drops. Just tilt your head and put a few drops in and let it do it's job (bubble and fiz) then, dry you ears w/ a twisted Kleenex or q-tip. But, you gotta do this when you first have the slightest symptoms. Do it once in the morning and at night. It will help your immune system fight the virus as the peroxide will kill the individual virus microbes and your immune system won't get overwhelmed and can overpower the remaining virals and, if yuo're lucky, you won't get the full blown virus. Very Happy
