I am currently teaching in Seoul and my contract expires February 15h. I want to find a new teaching position starting March 2007 however my passport expires January 2008. Will I have a problem getting an E2 visa?

As long as you have 6 months left, no worries.

This seemed like a succinct,self-assured and even,dare I say,a somewhat manly response.

What's going on??

Your NEW visa will only last until the expiry of your passport.

You can get a renewal passport anytime. Just tell them that you need a repalcement because this one will expire before your next visa does.

When you get your new passport they will change the visa from your old passport to your new one along with your re-entry permits, etc.

Really? I didn't know that! I thought they would give me a brand new passport. I can't do it right now because i am leaving for vacation next week and won't be back until late January. I guess it will have to wait until then.

I was told the process takes about 15 days to complete. If i don't find a job before i leave, i wonder if i will have less luck when i return. After all I will not be able to show a hard copy of my passport.

It is a new physical passport with a new number and you have to make sure that you ASK for your old one to be returned and NOT destroyed.

Are you talking about the period of sojourn on the visa or the entry stamp from Korean immigration?

Your period of sojourn will NOT go past the expiry date of your passport.

You can get a new passport any time with a good reason (like it will expire within your visa period).

Just remember to request your old one back.
