U.S. 'Concerned' About Korean Illegals in U.S. Schools
The U.S. has called Seoul's attention to the increasing number of Korean children deported for attending U.S. public schools on visitors' visas.... "A senior U.S. official expressed his concern about the disadvantages such illegal acts by Korean parents can bring to their children in the future," he added.... Most U.S. public schools do not check foreign students visa when they enroll. But the Department of Homeland Security is serious about tracking down students who enter the country on a visitor's visa and stay after it expires. The embassy said if children are found out, they will not only be deported but risk being blacklisted.

Very funny article.
Cracking down on a few illegal Korean students rather than millions of illegal Mexican students. |

It's probably easier to find people who overstay a visa because there is actually documentation to follow.
Besides, schools aren't allowed to ask for a green card or visa or any legal documentation. Legally, public schools are required to provide free education to every student. I know it's insane, but in some states, like Oregon for example, schools are legally responsible to provide public education to all students, even if they aren't U.S. citizens. |

Really, how are they finding out? Why are the Koreans letting on that they have visitor's visas? It's not required to show a passport to enroll a kid in school. "We don't have documentation." Everyone knows the deal, but can't do or say anything. |

I am guessing they have an entry record, and no exit record, therefore it is logical that, if your records are correct, they are still there....

Oh, I see. It's Immigration that's tracking them down. As it should be.
(I misread that the schools were turning them in...) |

That speaks volumes about America. Illegal immigrants, tourists, give us your sick, your tired, your hungry.
My g/f told me a story yesterday of how her mother (in Korea) was sent away from school for not paying the fees or not having the proper shoes on. Who, upon returning home was told that she didn't need to go to school anyway because she was a girl. That kind of thing would be prosecuted in America.
Although, my neice in Orange County is tired of having everything explained twice to the Koreans in her class who don't understand the English language. |
