English teachers cross line
By John Scott Marchant, The Korea Herald (December 16, 2006)
http://www.koreaherald.co.kr/SITE/data/html_dir/2006/12/16/200612160002.asp
Quote:
A Busan Regional Police spokesperson yesterday confirmed that 15 English teachers are being investigated.... "They obtained their visas as English teachers and are banned from making money through other means," the spokesperson said. "Foreigners also have to go through certain procedures to stage performances in Korea but they did not do so. Urine tests were conducted due to reports of drug use before and after the show but all came back clean."

The investigation comes following an undercover operation in which police officers, who had been observing members of the comedy troupe for some time, attended Babo-palooza! at Neoreun Small Theater, Gwangalli Beach, Busan.... "For me, this was about doing something fun and interesting. Taking part in a sketch comedy? Why would you even think that was illegal?"

Wonder where these alleged "reports of drug use" came from? (considering they were proved false by the clean results)
Too bad.. Druggie foreigners would have made for better headlines I guess.

Captain Corea shows up here, too.

Fitting because the drug rumor was started by a hater like him.

Yes, the lie about the performers and attendees using drugs was started by a foreigner on the Pusanweb & ESL-Law forums.

You see, there are some foreigners here who are such losers that they have absolutely no lives. They spend all their time on forums and act like they are so superior to everyone else. Whenever other foreigners try to do something like put on a play, play in a band, have a poetry reading, whatever, these loser vultures swoop in and try to crap all over it. They try to tear all others down in order to make themselves feel better for having nothing to do but post on forums.

Here's what happened:

The play was being advertised on Pusanweb.com and even a little here.
Even before the show, a flame war started on Pweb by a couple of foreigners who wanted to air their superiority by claiming that the show's name, "Babopalooza", was stupid, unclever, etc.
They got shut down with "if you don't like it, dont' go then".
That set them off. They had to be right. They had to get the last punch in.
They attacked the show, the performers, the Busan foreign community by calling them such things as "a dog with fleas".
This was all before the show was even performed.

As far as can be told, only one of the haters who was bashing the show actually went to see it. He wrote a "review" in which he bashed the show. He only commented on the content by saying it was stupid. The rest of his "review" was an attack on the performers/organisers by commenting on of the organisers alledged drinking habits. The real class act was that he chose to degrade the performance by commenting that one of the foreign, female performers has a large proportioned body as if that makes her a less than worthy person and makes their show bad.
A real intelligent and insightful "review" indeed.

Well, these haters wouldn't stop with the bashing of the show. The final hit was one of them posting the ABSOLUTE LIE that drugs were being sold/consumed at the show. This idiot did this with the intention of hurting the people involved with the show. It's pretty certain that this idiot reported it to the police as well.

In the 2.5+ hour interrogation of the producers/performers, they were repeatedly asked about doing drugs, especially on the night of the show.
There were some Koreans involved in the show as well. The police interrogated them and asked, especially the Korean females, if they were performing any deviant sexual acts with the foregn males in the production. Of course, the females were highly offended by this accusation.
Thanks to the foreigner jerk who started the rumor/lie, the production is under investigation for drugs. Thankfully, none of them are doing any drugs!
The police now have it firmly planted in their minds- these are foreigners doing something strange and not behaving like good li'l chillins. They must be on drugs!
They are wrong!
They also think there are Korean females working closely with foreigners on this production. They must be having deviant sex parties/orgies/whatever!
They are ridiculously wrong!

The police are out for blood now. They are convinced that they will find something.
All they have is the silly "visa violation" charge.

I dare you to show me where any hate was in any of my posts on this subject.

I have actually been in contact with people from ths production and I must say.. it was very polite and civil.

You accuse me of being a hater... I say you are a liar! I have not said anything hatefull towards these people.

Captain, so you're not a hater?

Oh, really!

So why have you attacked these performers and labelled them "stupid"?
You attacked them for even putting on a performance!
You declare that they have no right to free speech, that you don't believe in free speech!
You attacked English teachers who do anything besides teach English and sleep!
You call them morons!
You hope they get the book thrown at them!
You hope they get deported!

You are the leader in the cheering section against them in the other thread!

Do you call this love?

Funny how you, Captain, condemn them for "violating their visas" when you, yourself, are advertising your cartoon drawings for sale on this very forum!

I would say that's a violation!

Are you the wife of the U.S. ambassador, perhaps?

Find me quote for ALL of those accusations.

You know you're lying...

But I'll respond to each of them here to clear up any misconception.

So why have you attacked these performers and labelled them "stupid"? I don't thik they are stupid. I think they are lacking foresight if they thought that this performance wouldn't have any negative ramifications.
You attacked them for even putting on a performance! No, I said they were in the wrong for breaking the law.
You declare that they have no right to free speech, that you don't believe in free speech! As foreigners in Korea they do not have a right to free speeech. If you are unable to understand that, head to your local Immi-office and ask them. I'm sure they'll be able to explain it to ya.
You attacked English teachers who do anything besides teach English and sleep! Actually, no, I didn't. Personally I really wish the visa laws here were different. BUt if someone violates the law, I just don't see how they would be surprised when they get in trouble.
You call them morons! Nope, never did.
You hope they get the book thrown at them! Do I want them to be deported? Well, that's not for me to say. I hope theyare treated fairly, and I hope that it doesn't ruin any lives, BUT I also hope that they are punished if they a proven to have broke a law (whether that is a fine or deportation remains to be seen).
You hope they get deported! See above.

Do you call this love? I never said I love the guys (girls), I just said I didn't hate them. No need to twist words here.

Dave should create a "block" feature on this site. It seems alot of people would be better off not speaking to one and other. I know I can say this much, its pretty weak to call the police and make accusations over something as serious as drugs in Korea if its BS. I dont know who did it, but someone did. The cops came up super empty, so needless to say a hater does exist.
Happy holidays lovers and haters

Sure looks like backpeddling to me!

You were the one leading the charge in condemning them!

That's it! Don't try to act like that's not what you did!

Game over!
