If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2,112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 10,000 soldiers.
The firearm death rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 10,000 for the same period.
That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in the U.S. Capital, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the USA, than you are in Iraq.
Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington immediately. |

it should. anacostia and some other parts of dc are worse than nearly anywhere else in the developed world and many parts of the "emerging market" countries out there. |

I went to source figures to get much the same result....
Washington population 580,000
Washington gun deaths (homicides) (1981-2000) 281,000 http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=594867
Gun homicides per year is 14,000
so if we times 14,000 by 1.8 to make the 22 months of Iraq we get 25,758. Now we need to make the populations the same so we divide 436 by 580,000 and times it by 160,000 we get... 7105
So the gun death rate is 3.36 times higher in Washington DC than in Iraq.
Some assumptions... all Iraq deaths are homicide gun deaths. I have only used the homicide gun death figures for Washington DC.

Mistake number 1: believing everything you read in e-mail.
Mistake number 2: Not reading everything before you believe it. |

D.C. = 3 people killed per MONTH for every 100,000
Iraq = 60 soldiers killed per MONTH for every 100,000 (or 2 per DAY
for every 100,000!!!) |

I've said this for a long time. The capital should be somewhere near Kansas City. |

That'd be a great way to induce self imposed term limits. |
