I've been trying to get a dog now for about 2 months.

I was going to get a mutt, but my students and co-workers talked me in to getting a pure-bred from Chungmoro because then it will be "healthy" and I can be sure the dog won't have any problems.

BULL$H!T!

I've had 3 puppies die from there. Two from parvo, one from dystemper. And no they didn't catch it from my house. The shop is happy to keep replacing the dogs over and over with new puppies, but ofcourse they won't refund it.

At this point I don't even care. I'd rather just walk away from the whole mess than watch another puppy get sick and die. I've spent the last 2 months bawling every weekend when the pup starts to get sick, knowing there's nothing I can do.

I've replaced the lynolium in most of my house, and bleached the heck out of the rest of my house, and dysinfecting every inch of it.

SO! I decided to come on here and ask for help again.

I want a small dog (ok actually I *want* a massive dog, but this is Korea and it wouldn't be fair to have a large dog, and I don't want to leave it behind when I leave, so I'll get a small one.) Less than 8 kilos, because I want to be able to take it inside the plane with me when I go.

I don't care if it's a mutt or a pure-bred, but I hate the look of shitzu's, poodles, and the other fluffy, air-headed dogs that you find in abundance here in Korea.

I don't care if it's a baby or a couple of years old.

I *can't* go to Daegu to the rescue down there because it's several hours from here and I don't have a car (nor any way to get the dog back).

I just want it to be healthy, affectionant, and good with kids (I don't have any but I plan to.)

I live in Sungnam (outside Jamsil, SE part of Seoul).

Both Parvo and distemper can be vaccinated against. Though these vaccinations will fail if a different strain of the virus evolves, they are fairly effective.

Yes I am aware of that. However puppies start getting their "shots" at 6 weeks old. They will not be immune to it until they are about 4 months old, when they have completed all their shots.

The puppies at the shop are about 6 weeks old, and while they've had their first shots (theoretically), that doesn't keep them from getting it.

The incubation period (exposure to symptoms) is about a week to 10 days, so they seem perfectly healthy for about 3 days after I bring them home, before the vomiting and diarrhea starts. They're picking it up in the shop.

And you can't vaccinate against something they already have. Fatality is about 80%

Pravo is non-segmented single stranded DNA viruses

Distemper is also another virus.

Both viruses can be destroyed in the environment by routine cleaning with disinfectants, detergents, or drying. It does not survive in the environment for more than a few hours at room temperature (20-25 C), but can survive for a few weeks at temperatures slighty above freezing.

For young puppies, vaccinations usually start at six-to-eight weeks of age and are given every three-to-four weeks until the puppy is 16 weeks of age. Recent information regarding parvovirus may extend this recommendation to 18 or even 20 weeks,

Looks like the shop and your house have these viruses. My bet is the shop! In Korea routine cleaning with disinfectants is not the norm.

As the above have mentioned, the problems your animals have faced are likely the due to poor conditions previous to you taking them on. As for taking a dog from afar, dont feel restricted. If a good candidate is available feel free to use public transportation to move them... one of my cats required both an extensive transit bus ride and a subway ride to reach my homestead. Just think that they are better off with an afficianado dispute the long transit.

OK people... My house doesn't have the virus. Seriously.

I've had my floors replaced. I've used bleach, followed by some solution the vet gave me to kill the virus on every inch of my house, even areas the dog never went. I bleached and solutioned my couches, pillows, blankets, etc. Every nook and crany in my house is sparkling clean. I swear you could eat off my floor it's so sanitary right now.

Thank you for your advice about the virus but I know pretty much everything there is to know about parvo and dystemper and a bunch of other viruses that animals can get. I grew up on a farm.

That isn't my question. My question is, does anyone have a mutt?

I looked at "jake", and while he's adorable, he's not what I want. Dachshunds are very independant and didn't like snuggling. I want something that wants to cuddle and be with me. I think they're wonderful dogs, but just not for me. My ex-boyfriend had a dachshund, and I just felt like our personalities didn't really jive.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a pug or boston terrier or a chinese/japanese Chin type personality.

It's really depressing to think about all the dogs without homes. Sad
