Can anyone help me. I'm filling out an application form. I think I have it ok but not sure how best to answer these questions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
1) What would you do if a student made a mistake in class in the accuracy production stage of a lesson? What if in the fluency stage of a lesson?
2) Given the speaking and listening nature of our program, what are some activities that you would do for reinforcing problems with stress in a sentence?
3) In a sample class, you are using a dialogue to teach a situation context. You are teaching clarification language. For example, Can you repeat that? Can you create a 4 sentence dialogue between two people illustrating how to clarify a misunderstanding? |

Well I'll tell you what I do:
1)
What would you do if a student made a mistake in class in the accuracy production stage of a lesson?
*I pause the class and have everyone repeat the proper way a couple of times, to get the improper way out of their heads. I don't bother asking them to self-correct because they don't know it well enough.
What if in the fluency stage of a lesson?
I pause them and said something like "mmmm... try that again please". Then when they think about it they can usually self-correct. If they can't then I ask the rest of the class to help out. If most of them don't know the answer then we need to go back to the accuracy production phase.
2) Given the speaking and listening nature of our program, what are some activities that you would do for reinforcing problems with stress in a sentence?
Poetry. Nursery Rymes. That's the earliest and most enduring form of speech in the west. A lot of phrasings you find in our silly children chants are the same in every-day spoken english. We have a very musical, sing-song and rythmic way of talking. Clapping along while chanting. But you have to totally explain it to them before hand and defend why you're doing it or they get bored. My classes improve their phrasal intonation draumatically after just a few lessons.
3) In a sample class, you are using a dialogue to teach a situation context. You are teaching clarification language. For example, Can you repeat that? Can you create a 4 sentence dialogue between two people illustrating how to clarify a misunderstanding?
I went to a movie last night with my sister.
Where did you say that you went with your mother?
No, I said that I went with my sister to a movie.
I'm sorry I misheard you. |
