Do I have this right? The CIA was in on offing JFK, installing the Shah and Pinochet, getting rid of Nixon, but was NOT in on the 'inside job' of 9-11. Is that all correct so far?
This from the Italy thread:

I think you can see why things are getting confused.

Nope.
(we) are well aware that the disastrous attack was planned and executed by the American CIA and the Mossad with help from organized Zionists in order to accuse the Arab world and to induce the Western powers to intervene in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Its not all bad for the neo-cons.
According to the report, the Iranians ceased developing nuclear weapons in Fall of 2003. |
are those two separate statements? or are they linked? |
Here's an argument the neo-cons might make: America's invasion of Iraq intimidated Iran into giving up pursuit of nuclear weapons.
Counter-argument: Iran is not intimidated, because they have done everything to make the world believe they are pursuing nuclear weapons (including denying it).
Here's an argument I will make. This intelligence is spectacular news for American foreign policy. The Iranians have less leverage diplomatically. They have all the int'l isolation, without any of the technological weapons progress. Iran is in the worst possible position to threaten anyone. It has become less of a player in the region.
The NIE likely developed this report to counter fear in the Arab world of the Iranian bomb. Such fear was driving countries like Egypt and Saudi Arabia into starting their own nuclear weapons programs. |

your argument has merit assuming the neocons' number one agenda is peace in the mid-east.
i think one could make a reasonable argument that mid-east peace, while being desired, is not the main agenda for military conflicts within the region.
if one assumes that there is a different agenda for going into afghanistan, iraq, and for wanting to go into iran, then this current revelation would be perceived as being bad among neocons at the top. |

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden on Tuesday said he can't believe President Bush hasn't known for months about a recent intelligence estimate that downplays the nuclear threat from Iran.
Are you telling me a president that's briefed every single morning, who's fixated on Iran, is not told back in August that the tentative conclusion of 16 intelligence agencies in the U.S. government said they had abandoned their effort for a nuclear weapon in '03?" Biden asked in a conference call with reporters.
"I refuse to believe that," he added. "If that's true, he has the most incompetent staff in modern American history, and he's one of the most incompetent presidents in modern American history."

For the neocons and the hawks, it doesn't really seem to be about nukes at all, does it.
Bush was briefed on the NIE last week, yet he said Iran's nuclear programs are risking World War III.
So if Iran has really stopped its weapons development plans, what do the neocons hope to accomplish by continuing to push it?
A possible answer: Iran is the last independent nation in the Middle East. All the rest have been somehow conquered, pacified or domesticated. Or are too small to matter. If the US invades Iran, the conquest of the Middle East will be complete. |

so the question remains,
how do the neocons justify a war with iran now? |
