OH I forgot, Korea doesn't do anything that we don't do in the west
Hojucandy, as a vet you should know very well that in the west slaughter houses have very rules and proceedures for hygiene and killing methods. Those markets did not reach those standards. Of course the guy couldn't get the true attrocities on film as the workers are well aware of how the west feels about what they do. It's common knowledge that the dogs are beaten with clubs and or burned alive with gas torches, this makes them produce massive amounts of adrenaline which is supposed to nicely flavour the muscle tissue. IT HAPPENS, and it's totally insane. Cats ARE thrown alive into boiling vats, and it takes them several minutes of excruciating agony before they die. The workers can't even be bothered killing the cat quickly before they boil them.
In the west cows and sheep are killed by a specialist who slits their throat, and it's very quick. The two practices are not even remotely comparible. |

I suggest that every one of you that has a problem with the food market here in Korea, write your local congressman in America, parliament dude in Canada, or sheep in New Zealand and request an immediate boycott of all Korean products...
Nothing's gonna change unless we take action. |

No beef with Kiwis... I think technically that would be a "lamb" with Kiwis...
Actually, I just don't know what forms of legislators you have in New Zealand. |

The only things I know about New Zealand are a little international relations stuff from the ANZUS... they don't like American nuclear powered ships... they export alot of sheep... and they've got cities named Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch |

Well done on your geographical knowledge, we also have a thing called parliament, with real politicians too. |

Ive also heard all the stories about the dogs being beaten and cats boiled alive, but I also heard there was a serial killer in Hongdae.... whats my point? I havent seen either so its hearsay in my opinion... I've seen blowtorched carcasses, but I couldnt tell if it was done while they were alive, or after they were dead.
The guy in that video was really annoying, a generally a real knob. If your gonna do a video like that don't abuse the woman who has done it for a living for god know how long... maybe approach her and talk to her in Korean, asking her some questions in a civil manner.
And is this guy up for an oscar?? That dry retching was a classic |

If they're real politicians, why do they get roughed up by airport security? |

of course they didn't - they are markets, not abattoirs. hygeine is not the issue here so i will leave that out.
the killing methoids displayed in the film were in my professional opinion humane. knocking the rabbit in the manner shown is quick and efficient. the narrator was insisting the animal was still alive because it was twitching. really this guy is not qualified to make a film like this is he does not know his basic physiology. a dead animal can twitch for a long time after death.
i should point out too that under internationally accepted human slaughter practice as used in all aussie, kiwi, and US abattoirs, animals are stunned then bled, they are not killed then bled. so if yu stroll into a meatworks in anydeveloped country yu will see the same thing - animals unconscious yet still breathing, awaiting sticking, which will result in their death.

he should not make the claims he does unless he can back them up.

it is certainly a common urban myth. but - i have yet to see proof it happens. this documentary purported to show proof of serious abuse but in fact it did not show anything other than poor housing. visit a battery farm in any developed country and yu will see the same - government sanctioned too.
i am opposed to poor housing of animals btw. in my "previous life" i shut down a poultry farm once because of the housing standards.
if there is serious animal abuse in korea it should be solidly condemned. but this video is a crock. it is dumb and offensive. |

totally agree
so cutting the head off a chicken is inhumane?? They run around after deapitation, nerve endings are still active making it twitch... but I can assure you its dead |
