OK, let's vent. Long rambling posts with blatantly repeated misspellings on a message board supposedly populated with English teachers drive me batsh** insane.
It's tongue!
That is all. |

Why can't you criticize her? Or better yet, have the air on when they walk in the room and keep the windows locked and make a class rule that when the air is on, the doors and windows stay closed. My kids know this and my co-teachers don't argue with it because it's a rule. |

Exactly. Whining on a message board accomplishes little. If you have a problem with someone, talk to them. I'm amazed at how many people post on here asking advice on what to do about a noisy neighbor or perpetually late co-teacher when they clearly haven't even tried talking to the person yet. It's not rocket science. Most people are reasonable when confronted in a calm, rational manner. |

I have enjoyed reading VOD (venting on dave's). It does help cope at times. I never come here to hear rosy talk about Korea because I get that 24/7 away from this site.

I like to have the air conditioner on and windows open, in my classroom and in my car. Cool breezy air and fresh air. No air con headache, no stuffy air. A perfect combination of coolness and freshness. Of course, it's a waste of energy. That's the real drawback. But I don't pay the hagwon power bill and I'm willing to pay an extra buck or two in gas for my car to have it on while the window is cracked a third open. |

| Yes, I've just closed the windows. Convrsely, in the winter when the classroom is being cleaned at lunchtime I've closed the windows whilst saying loudly "What moron opens the windows in mid-January? Keep your windows at home open!" |

| Keep following the lead, 76-freeze in the winter, stay hot and sweaty in the summer, and be aware that human nature is near universal-you will be quietly despised by your korean coworkers for just taking the nonsense. |

| I've actually learned how to open and close windows quietly without insulting people in a condescending manner. So far, it's been quite effective in maintaining optimum room temperature. |

| Maybe it should be "Why Whining on Dave's is Useful." The problem of impotent foreigners living in a culture that either pacifies them too much or gives them the shakes. |

Where are you coming from? There are three options:
a) self-loathing?
b) condescending holier-than-thou exception to the rule?
or
c) are you simply not one of us, a Korean? (or gyopo who thinks he's Korean) |

None of the above really. Just my observations. I'm a realist. |

I think it's because they're vaccuuming and it's dusty. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time either. If the kids don't open the windows while cleaning, the older teachers yell at them. Then I figured it must be because of vaccuum dust.
I'm not allowed to be alone in a room so I never get to be boss. |

I explained the aircon/window situation to my coteacher, but she changed her tune from "dirty air" to "it makes my eyes hurt."

I actually agree with this... I think I'm sensitive. Air con makes me sneezy and shivery, and the air gets in my throat and ughhh. |
