I would absolutely quit.
But that depends how much money u have, what visa you're on, etc...
Your "friend" is being treated poorly, and for what? 2 grand a month?? Dang, you could go back home and work at tgi fridays and make that much. Or, as previously stated, go to China, make more money, and learn an actually useful language. |
He could always run away and join the circus. Well, never mind. |

My friend who is currently teaching in South Korea was approached by his director. The school has been losing students so the director is a bit worried. I can sympathise with his boss. The ESL market can be very difficult, and it's very frustrating to please Korean mothers.
Anyway, the boss wants my friend to wear a clown costume on Fridays! He has to put on the baggy pants, paint his face white, and learn to juggle! He has about 3 months left on his contract. I told him to hang on and to finish out the contract. He's obviously pissed. He looked over his contract and it didn't state that he would have to put on a clown costume.
The boss said that the children he teaches are bored with his teaching style. They want fun, fun, fun! I think it's ridiculous. He doesn't even know how to juggle!
What would you guys do?
PS... I know it sounds like I'm trolling. I'm not. |

This thread is funny.
Yeah, it could be a troll. But it's not far off reality, either. I believe this shit could happen to some poor, unlucky sucker. |

You have a point. I worked with several clowns at various schools, and sometimes, on really bad days, I felt like a clown myself. |

| Why does your boss make you wear a troll costume on Thursdays? |

Troll or not there are some cases of this happening. I spoke with a hogwon worker in Incheon who was required to dress up like Santa and sit in the back of a truck driving around town waving to people on the street.
I'm sure there was nothing in his contract about that. |

| I knew a few people who worked at an English Village. They said they sometimes had to wear costumes. I can see it happening. The boss might have gotten the idea from an English Village. |

Oh come on, wearing a clown costume to teach English in a Korean hagwan is the equivalent of someone putting on a black mask and stripey jumper to commit burglary. He'll be telling us the boss is insisting that 'dancing around like a monkey' be added to his terms and conditions of service next.
Just because he told everyone he isn't a troll doesn't mean he isn't a troll you know. |

I was once told I wasnt allowed to move away from the classroom window so that people would always see me (whilst at work).
I was also instructed by the same school to walk around the local supermarket/shopping mall with a selection of children for 4 days straight. |

| I really would like to believe the OP is making a FUNNY. However, after all the crazy things I've seen happen here, I somehow think he might be sincere. |

It reminds me of the time Wonderland handed me and two other male co-workers three dresses and a blonde wig and said, "Here's your Halloween outfits."
I'd wear the clown outfit as long as the pay has been accurate and on time. But it's not worthwhile to learn how to juggle. Trying to juggle, dropping pins, and falling down trying to catch them will make the kids laugh more than juggling. It'll be good for only one Friday. By the second time around, it'll already be stale/lame. |

People taking out purses and wallets at the high school reunion to show photos of their daily lives.
A picture of Mary and her twin girls.
Ralph showing the picture of his son hitting a baseball.
Ernie points to a pic of himself being promoted to Vice-President of the company.
Look at that one, it's Lisa on her wedding day.
One of Jim making his rounds at the hospital in Dr. scrubs.
Earl the accountant.
Susan the housewife.
Jennifer the dentist.
Thomas shaking hands at the ribbon cutting in front of his new jewelry shop.
And Larry, ole Larry, there's Larry bouncing up and down in a clown costume holding ABC cards and singing the happy kangaroo song. |
