But rapier, my boy, I was not asking about how many skirmishes and difficulties Britain was involved in in the 20th Century. I used the word 'victories'. There were quite a few.

Got any American war victories after WWII?

The Battle of Britain and the Falklands would be British military contributions of the 20th Century, you feel. Not having any involvement whatsoever with North Vietnam is pretty b1tchin' too. Laughing

Yes, it was a turning point but the suggestion that Hitler invaded Russia because he gave up on Britain is not really true: he turned on Russia because his victories to that point had gone to his head and he thought he could abandon all dissemblement and go for his true goals. He had the bizarre idea that Britain was another Aryan race and therefore ought to be allies, that Russia was populated by untermensch and was destined to be the theatre of a 'world-historical' racial showdown, and he was clueless as to the great strides in industrial development made in Russia since WW1, not to mention utterly clueless as to the power of the United States whom he so casually declared war on in '41.

So he didn't invade Russia because he lost the Battle of Britain, he invaded it because that was what he'd always dreamed of doing and his whacked ideology made him monumentally stupid.

My neighbor with the loud, barely working, hunk of crap car back in the 80s? It broke down one day and everyone in the neighborhood was happy when it was towed away to the junkyard.

Even though the owner paid to have it taken away, I claimed responsibility for the whole situation in the hopes that they'd name an airport after me one day.

This was my statement: By the end of August 1940 the ________ had won and ______ gave up trying to invade Britain. After his failed attempt to invade Britain, ______ would attempt to fight a war on two fronts by invading R_____.

There's no 'because'. I merely said that the invasion of Russia occurred after the Battle of Britain.
