I'd really like to but since never doing it before, it will be to much of a challange. Sucks. too..as I live in Yongin and don't really know how I'm gonna get a built com and 22" lcd home w/out spending an arm and a leg on a taxi. And, if the shop that builds it for 40,000 or so can put an OS on it for free....  |

| If you can run a philips screwdriver and plug wiring connections that only plug in the proper way (no way to screw it up) you can build your own rig from a pile of boxed components. |

Yeah...I can run a Philips but, I haven't a clue about coms. Don't even know where most of the components go. You know a site that goes through the process step by step?
Anyway, got my components listed and priced now. But, I have a few questions I hope some of the more knowledgeable can help me with. My MB is the Asus P5B Deluxe and CPU is the Intel Core 2Duo E6400. I want to go w/ a Zalman cpu fan w/ thermal grease but I don't know which model or size I should go with (80 or 120 mm) Can someone please recommend a Zalman model for me that will work well with this MB/CPU combo? |

Just have a look at their site and find one that appeals to you. If it were me, I would probably go with this one. Prety basic. The Zalman site also has installation movies for you to watch.
Google "how to build a PC" and you will find what you need to put it together. Alternately, you could order the parts for Yongsan, have them delivered to Yongin, take it to a local shop and have them build it and install the OS you want. |

| Good idea Dem but will the "local shop" have OS I want...English version XP? I sorta doubt it. I live out in the boon docks. Maybe I'll inquire about it at a shop in Yonging city. |

| I don't know if you'd need an extra fan.. it already comes with a heat sink and fan when you buy it, and unless you're going to do some overclocking, I would think that would be enough |

well, naturally they're not the best, but you might as well try it out, see how it works for you.. one person's "so noisy I can't sleep" might be barely noticeable by someone else
can always spend money later to get the upgrade to a Zalman |

A Zalman heatsink fan is only around 40,000 at Yongsan. That's money well spent for lower noise and lower temperatures. My Intel stock heatsink fan was noisy, ineffective and difficult to keep dust-free. The fins are really close together and even a can of compressed air and a thin straw couldn't get the dust out at the bottom. My Zalman CNPS9500 is a remarkably better component.
As far as whether to spend more or less on the entire computer......I would just spend as much as I could comfortably afford. You'll enjoy a really good PC and it could open up other avenues of computer use that you never considered before.
I use PC's a lot so I see 1.5 mill as easily justifiable for something I will get thousands of hours of use from. |

I have an Asus P5LD2 deluxe and an Intel D 3.0. The CNPS9500 fits comfortably with room to spare.
Will you be getting the standard-sized ATX case? The most common size. About 90% of the cases in Yongsan are this size.
If you are, then don't worry. Any Zalman CPU cooler will fit onto any of todays mainstream motherboards fitted into an ATX caase. I seen one report that Zalman have yet to exclude any mainstream mobo from their compatible list. It seems to fit them all!!
Here's Zalman's page. Choose a heatsink fan and check which socket type it fits.
http://www.zalmanusa.com/ You can see they're compatible with all the popular CPU socket types..........but you must get the standard ATX case to fit them in height-wise.
You'll have no problem with the P5B and E6400. |
