I think most of you missed the point. My point is, there's a psychological aspect here making your identity less individualistic., ie., unable to express yourself, not able to talk to just anyone, very little social interaction to make you feel a part of anything, and less freedom of choice, and this in more ways than one.
It has nothing to do about what you can do here in Korea, which is quite easy to accomplish, in a limited sense. But accomplishing what you want to do by your own merit, such as achieving a recognizable social status, instead of just being a guest in Korea, is non-existent.
The mindset is far too diferent from that in America, and I'd think, in some of your own countries alike. This mindset is that who you are doesn't have much bearing on your personality, or your daily decisions in life, because you're just there, not a part of anything.
So to stand out, to go your own way, is like following a one way street that really leads to nowhere. |

whatever 'point' you may have had, i'm afraid i missed it once again.
how can you blather on about individualism when you worship a guy who calls you a sheep for doing so?

The reason they're called "a cult" is because they've deviated from the biblical tenets that "Christians" hold as sacrosanct, meaning they're truth.
You must study the bible to understand. WE HAVE NO OTHER BOOK, AS CHRISTIANS, TO BASE OUR FAITH UPON OTHER THAN THE BIBLE!!
Remember this, and get back to mormons being just like any other Christian. |
you've just blasted mormons for thinking outside of a box that you've been told to stay inside of.
you're a card carrying member of one of the biggest cults in the history of mankind, based on a few books written by people who never met the guy (who may or may not have ever existed) that they were writing about, because if he ever did exist, he died centuries before they were born. they tell some stories about magic tricks, and a few centuries after that, some people decided that 8th hand accounts of a magician warrants divinity.
and what's your evidence?

| The fact of the matter is we're contrasting cults verses religion, which is why a religion, via proof of centuries of followers, has more credence, and a cult, from various centuries to now, has been proven to be misleading, or false. |
a bunch of other people bought it, so it must be true.
that just reeks of individualistic thought.
come on, rock. preach fire and brimstone. warn us that we'll go to hell for ma5turbating. but please don't preach to us about individualism. |

Korea isn't a collectivist society.
There's no dissolving of the "self" into some great indistinguishable whole.
Dude, if you want to eat well and exercise, just do it. You must have known before coming here that you would be a spectacle. If you aren't coping, it probably doesn't have anything to do with Korean culture and how it does or does not compare to American culture. It's probably got to do with you just not coping.
Don't boggle your brains trying to pick apart what's wrong with this country (and there's LOTS). If you're depressed, find a way to take some positive action and sort yourself out. |
