Dude...what he said in French has a completely different meaning.....the straight translation can be slanted eyes which is a slur but in French "les yeux brides" is not considered a slur....but...that happens a lot with the media.

As for the politician...he should not have said that anyway. He also has a less than pristine past.

No, the inoffensive term is 'yeux en amande' (almond eyes).

Such comments in French are not seen as offensive by them as they would be to anglophones in English.

That being said, French people are very racist. And, for the most part, they hate English people. I could go as far to say that they hate each other, too.

I would not call Andre Boisclair an openly racist partisan. He is not. Is he perfect? Was that a poor choice of words? I think it was somewhat offensive, but I don't think people should jump on the guy too much and overplay it. Give me a break about French Quebecois. There is this one guy here in Korea from Ontario who keeps saying really racist stuff about French Canadians, and it annoys me that none of his friends correct him or call him on it. That tells you plenty anglophones are pretty darn racist as well.

Right, and then they wonder why Quebecers want to make sure that they can continue to protect their own culture after they sign the constitution.

why is it 'racist' to point out someone's obvious facial features?

BFD. i see another attribute besides - - eyes is very thin skin.

"When I was in Hongdae ... I was surprised to see that about one-third of the people had big noses/smelled like rotting dairy products."

You know the old saying, big nose equals big pen is.

Hollywood....sorry but "les yeux brides" in fench is not a slur.
