MSNBC caved because of this. No more no less.
Spike Lee has exploited the race card to hijack the Eastwood harassment express. And you are cheering him on. Congratulations. |

Actually, it is an insulting term where (and when) I come from.
I'm not sure that's the issue, though.
By injecting that into the 'newscast' the 'reporter' stopped doing her job of reporting the news and started editorializing the news. In this Anderson Cooper lets-become-part-of-the-story world of news, it only reminds me that I prefer the eloquence, sense of history, and forethought of the Jim McKays to 90% of what is called broadcasters and news anchors. |

She is MSNBC's "entertainment girl," right? About as intelligent and qualified to talk about current events as yesterday's "weather girls" were. She should stick to Paris Hilton, Brad Pitt, and Charlie Sheen and leave the real issues to others.
I wholly agree with your take on today's advocacy-journalism, by the way. |

Hmm. At the present moment, the last comment on that thread was directed at you, Gopher ...

Yes. You DO know more than everyone else. Don't you.

Yup. What I said before. Rather ignorant - and that's not her fault, just means that nobody taught her. Do you have a similar excuse?
And she wasn't reporting current events. She was reporting entertainment. Still no excuse for being dumb, I guess.

Yup. Me too. But it's more than insulting, it has a history behind it. It's a history a lot of people would like to pretend never happened. It did, though, and wishing it away won't make it go away. |

No, that is not how you presented her and her remarks on this thread. You seemed to assign her, one way or another, racist intent. |

Wrong. Exactly wrong. Go back and read what I said:
"But it's not racist, because she didn't say the "N" word. Therefore, we can relax."
Did you see the arrow? Did you see the exclamation mark? Therefore, I was not being ironic. She really didn't realize what she was saying.
But that IS part of the problem, you see. It's not that she is young and ignorant, it's that she has not been taught what words mean. Apparently one or two people in these forums also missed this memo, from the looks of things ... |

What do words mean? I guess they mean what hypersensitive people tell us they mean, with each and every case interpreted in the worst-case-scenario, especially where an African-American finds him or herself the subject of our remarks, apparently.
I must say, I have a very difficult time distinguishing your sarcasm and sneers from your attempts at irony and humor. |

[quote="happeningthang"]We'll have to vehemently disagree there IG, because for me Eastwood smothers his actors with his banal directing.
Yes, he covers a lot of genres - with really mediocre results. I would have played down Firefox if I were trying to sell the director as being good at his job. What good movies Eastwood directed were long in the past, and were those in which genre expectations did half the job for him.
To say you can't compare directors is just ridiculous. Why the hell not? By that logic we can't compare movies, actors, football teams.... Of course we can compare, and for my money Spike is the better director by a mile.[/quote
What I mean is that every director makes movies different, its like saying
Who is better Picasso or Van Gogh! Both are exceptionally good! It comes down to personal taste but as an aficionado or critic you need to point out their different styles and ways they express their art! Perhaps to you spike is better! But its clear spike lee is penned in on his genre!
Lets see him direct a western or a ww2 epic to see his true style! Lets see him break out of that genre he lives in and express himself in other ways! He is the best at the style of movies he makes no doubt!
But he doesnt take risks!
Now IM not saying spike is bad, ON the contrary I think he is an amazing director. Now if I was a producer and needed a director for a street genre piece or an African American story I would call Spike! Anything else I would call Clint!
Spike is good! Clint is more experienced! And it truly shows, its like taking a boy to a gun fight!
Spike can shoot! But dont mess with HARRY! |

This is the key. CE was just talking as an old, man's-man talks to people they think are uppity. He accidentally walked into a mine field and the grievance industry jumped in.
I figured the Duke fiasco would have helped put this whole industry to sleep. Oh well. |

It's very easy. I've already told you.
As a special gift to people like you I've devised this handy little visual code. It's because I love you so much.
You don't even have to read the parts that I mark this way if it's likely to confuse you too much.

Eastwood is not the one who used the word 'uppity.' You are confused. But we knew that already. |

So, now uppity is racist eh? Or what?
How about this:
You white-guilt obsessed flunkies can make a list of words that white people MAY use when speaking to black people. Keep in mind that not every situation is a rainbow, ergo some negative words (though, of course, not "uppity") will need to be kept in.
Also keep in mind that a separate list needs to be made for every -- no matter how tiny -- "group" on earth. You all better get busy. |
Wow, how old are you kids? Are you really that naive ? Actually, you can use any words you want when speaking to black people. You have no obligation to be politically correct. You have the right to be as rude, insulting and offensive as you like. Feel free. |

What are you talking about? Whom did Spike Lee hijack the Eastwood harassment express from and in what direction was the express headed before Mr. Lee hijacked it? |

| Maybe Spike Lee should've done the movie Braveheart with an all black cast, and a black William Wallace. I'm sure in his mind, they were all blacks anyways. |

Nah, he should have done it with Americans in skirts and unconvincing accents. |
