I suspect it's not considered AS rude, within Korean culture.

Actually pointing IS rude, very rude in Korean culture.
Steelrails and tum must know this, but they seem to conveniently sidestep such truths out of whatever objective it is they have...
I can see this back and forth going on forever, so I'm outtie like five oh. |
We were discussing staring and I clearly said it was rude regardless. But I was commenting on the double standard that other people have noticed as well. Read first then post. |

I don't feel I'm ignoring some double standard. I'm not sure why you would word it that way, trying to spin it so that I'm taking some sort of "whiner" stance. You tend to do that with me whenever I respond to one of your, at least in my opinion, haughty and rushed responses.
And just to make my particular opinion clear, staring at an attractive person is just as rude as a fierce glare. What some dork who's been here 6 months is whining about (the initial responses) really does not interest me in the slightest. I'm not really sure why you invest so much disdain in said complaints, because I know if I focused on tackling them and changing opinions I'd get sick of this board real fast. I do, however, hope you've managed to influence people to change their negative viewpoints.

If we're going to be pedantic about word choice then it's still technically a discourse. But that's neither here nor there, I was just trying to vary up word choice.

Your point was well made Zyv. I have no issue with it actually. I am simply commenting on the double standard that exists on here.
Now, in my opinion, some staring is rude, most of it is innocent and not rude. Others react differently. Such is life I suppose. |

I get the "Wah! Waygook-i-da!" all of the time. I responded to a rude clan of kids with a nice "와! 아시아 사람 다!" just today. They hated it for some reason. Wonder why that is...

So you as an ADULT responded to KIDS in a childish manner and you are PROUD if it? Great job you insulted some kids. Your Medal of Valour is in the mail!

Did I insult them? Is it considered an insult to be called an Asian person? You said it, not me...
My take on it is that I was called a foreigner loud enough for me to hear it. The boy wanted me to hear it, and the other boys made it clear that they wanted me to hear their laughter as a response to seeing a foreigner. I believe that by saying "Wa! An Asian person!", they could at least see how stupid their behavior is. If not that, then they can at least understand that I know what they are saying. To me, they were just people until they yelled something at me. |

I enjoy reading some of your posts, but come on, kids wanting you to hear what they say?
You know, I'm a bit bothered. I've had a broken hand for 6 weeks now, and with all the staring and glaring going on, you'd think someone would notice the injured hand and cough up a seat on the bus.
One time in 6 weeks. Thanks, random lady riding the 402.
I mean yeah staring is fun and giggly to harp about, but really, I'd like to be stared at right now. I'd like someone to notice the wrist brace and be like "Wow it's a foreigner" so I can milk it for all it's worth and get myself a seat, but I'm having no such luck.
This one's a tough call for me. And I repeat, cute kids always get a pass in my book.

| I never get stared at but it's because I blend in well. I'm in shape, I dress in trim clothes like Korean men do, and I don't have a big beard or anything. It's not that hard. |

I blend in 50/50 here depending on what angle you get me from but I've just gotten used to the staring the states because I rather well endowed for such a tiny girl so I figure that is the reason I get stares here. Also according to my co-workers it is my good skin as well, so maybe that might be part of other "nice skin quality people" getting stared at?
I don't know I'm on the fence at how to react with staring, yes it is rude, but sometimes like on the train they aren't really staring at you, but through you because you just happen to be at eye level. Although I do tend to get a little grumpy when it is an outright stare at my chest because I didn't bundle up well enough to cover my entire chest. I like to think that if they are actually looking at you it is because you have something they want like double eyelids, nice legs, pale smooth skin, large sweater warmers. |

That is hilarious. I stare at women who look nice because, darnet, I just can't help myself sometimes; I suppose many of them also have nice skin though. The glaring irks me when it comes from older people. Best way to go about it is to win the staring contest, motion at them in some way, or say something to make them feel awkward. |

yeah I would have called BS, but this was just before the co-worker cornered me and asked what my skin care routine was. I think when the weather gets hot again and I can't wear turtle necks I will end up doing a couple staring contests and practice the "I'm watching you" hand gesture. |
