I keep hearing, "You're so kind!" with the accompanying wide eyes. Is this Korean for "You're stupid and you're being taken for a ride?"

they think all western foreigners are selfish and individualistic minded so it is shocks them to see otherwise just like when we show we like spicy food Shocked

Bingo. I'm sure that one of the Korean tranlations for 'kind' must mean 'compliant'.

Well, my kindness to my students is rarely rewarded with kindness back. But then they are children.

My kindness to my coteachers is well rewarded, however.

I have found most foreigners I met in Korea to be "tremendously kind and generous"......especially when giving up their seat to seniors on the subway.....
