I'd like to post this in the Czech Republic section, but the site is saying my user name is invalid (for that section, but not for this one). Mods, feel free to move it.

I'm thinking about signing up for the TEFL Online course. First, some questions:

-How time consuming is it? Is it easy? I've been teaching for two years... do I really have to work and pay attention for sixty hours? Or can I leave my computer, do other stuff, and answer very obvious questions after each chapter? What exactly is the setup?

How valuable is it? I live in Korea and want to move either to Seoul or to Prague when I finish my contract. Is it imperative to work in Prague? Will it net me higher pay in Seoul (or Thailand, where I also might go?) Is it truly the same thing as being TEFL Certified... will employers seeking a certified English teacher consider it the same thing?

What else does anyone think of this?

Thanks.

The reason no one replied earlier is that this question is covered all the time and you need to read the FAQs and stickies for the already-said answers.

Also, you have to register for the other forums separately.

I just spent twenty minutes looking for posts with answers to my questions... couldn't find any.

Think you (or someone else) could take a minute to give me some guidance instead of taking a minute to tell me you don't want to because someone's already posted about this before?

There is a "FAQ" forum from the index.

This is the FAQ you need: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=20641

Similar question you asked, similar, previous answers.

Thanks. That was pretty helpful.

I still can't tell if a typical school in say Prague or Budapest (I feel it's pretty competitve there) will accept a certificate from a TEFL online program... I'd basically like to find an online course that will be accepted by schools in Prague and, should I choose to stay in Korea or move to Thailand, will net me a pay raise for my next contract. Anyone??

Many places in Prague hire without a TEFL, or have programs where you work in a school and get a TEFL at the same time. My guess is that they will recognize an online TEFL. Cruise through the Intl. forums (and register for later questions) and see what people are saying about it.

Another option is to do a search, but not the flawed Dave's search. Go to google. and type the keywords you want plus "eslcafe.com." Example: Prague, TEFL, online, eslcafe.com

Thanks dude. Much appreciated. Interesting that I might not need a TEFL to teach in Prague... I thought it was really competitive over there. Hell, maybe I'll just be lazy, ignore the TEFL thang, then try my luck in November...

I've heard about the programs where you do the TEFL course while working at the school (and I think you work there full time after completing the course). Do you know if you have to pay for the TEFL course while I'm working there, or is it deducted from my paycheck, or what?

I have no idea.
