HOUSTON � Suppose Exxon Mobil decided to return the favor and buy you a tank of gas. Then again, why stop there? The oil giant turned a profit last year fat enough to buy a fill-up for every car, truck and SUV in America � four times.
Beating its own record to rack up the largest annual corporate profit in American history, Exxon Mobil Corp. said Friday it earned $40.6 billion for the year, reaping the benefits of crude-oil prices around $100 a barrel.

Despite A Fall In Production
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) -- Royal Dutch Shell, Europe's largest oil company, reported a $31.3 billion yearly net profit on Thursday, due to divestments and higher oil prices.
Shell chief executive Jeroen van der Veer was "satisfied" with the oil company's latest results.
It represented a 23 percent rise from last year's figure of $24.4 billion, while sales rose 12 percent to $356 billion.
The results came on the back of a 60 percent rise in fourth-quarter net profit of $8.47 billion, up from $5.28 billion. Sales for the final quarter rose to $107 billion from $75.5 billion despite a fall in production.
At its production operations, Shell's profit rose 38 percent to $4.87 billion.
The Anglo-Dutch company's production was 3.4 million barrels of oil and equivalents per day, down 5.5 percent from 3.6 million in the same quarter a year ago.
Chief executive Jeroen van der Veer described the results as "satisfactory" overall, noting that the company had weak refining margins but "launched new (production) projects ... and achieved exploration successes."

| Given the number of states that have nationalized their oil companies and piss away the profits, I don't see a problem here. |

So both the oil companies AND the mideast states profited from the war causing the price to go to $100, but that's just a coincidence, right? |

It is not the oil companies. And the main reason for oil at 100 dollars is supply and demand.
What is Ron Paul's position on alternative energy? |

He is against all alternative energy spending by the US govt.
Besides if you get rid of subsidies for the US oil companies you know what they will do?
They won't look for oil in the US any more instead they will look for it in the mideast where getting it is very cheap.
It costs next to nothing to get oil from the mideast. But it costs about 40- 50.00 a barrel to get it from the oil sands in Canada.
Yep that'll make the US more energy independent. Ron Paul and his supporters they don't have a clue. |

How about this ? get rid of subsidies for oil companies.
But if you do that better put a tax on imported oil especially that which comes from the mideast or Venezuela.
Only with a a tax on imported oil does eliminating subsidies for oil companies make sense. |

If Chavez and Amadinajad could vote they would vote for Ron Paul.
If you want the US to be even more dependent depend on Chavez and the mideast for oil then vote for Ron Paul.
Of course 9-11 conspiracy theorists want to see the US govt overthrown so this is probably what they in fact want.

You and your kind are an enemy of the US that is why you support Amadinajad, Chavez, support a candidate who is against alternative energy spending , and who promotes 9-11 conspiracy theories on the internet.
