Hello All,
I am inexperienced and a newbie but would greatly appreciate any help.
I am looking to move to Seoul next August (roughly 4 months from now). When would you recommend beginning to apply for jobs? What is the average length of time from first speaking with an recruiter/employer to stepping off the plane in Korea?
How long does the E-2 process generally take?
What is the final status on the hair drug test for the E-2?
Thanks for everything! |

I have never heard of a hair drug test...it's a blood test, and there has been some press lately that it's been dropped. There has never been a hair drug test.
Get your:
apostilled criminal records check
original diploma
SEALED university transcripts (get 5 copies...you'll need two immediately, but sometimes you have to produce others once here)
Fill out health self-assessment (you will be provided with this once you have a contract)
Passport must have well over 1 year to expiration
Get many passport size photos
DOs and DON'Ts:
Do carefully read the contract-find tips for interpreting it on this website. Clarify, clarify, clarify...
Do get pictures of apartment
Do talk to school director (if hogwon) on the phone...if he doesn't speak English, how will you ever get a problem solved?
Don't assume that terms in a contract mean the same thing in Korea as they do in the West.
Don't think that this is a paid vacation.
There are a lot of other dos and don'ts...keep coming back to this site and you'll learn a lot. |

THEN
Until you have all your documents in hand there is nothing you can really do about gaining employment here.
IF / when you have all your documents in hand the process can take as little as 12-21 days from contract offer to LEGAL job start.
