"The town of Cheongdo will host the Cheongdo Bullfighting Festival on March 24-28. You might not think of Korea as a bullfighting nation, but in fact it is, and the Cheongdo Bullfighting Festival is the nation's largest festival dedicated to the sport. Cheongdo-gun and the Cheongodo Bullfighting Association are working together to offer various events, such as inviting Japanese fighting bulls, good-will bullfights between Korea and Japan and a rodeo show by U.S. troops stationed in Korea.

For more information, call (054) 370-6114. Trains to Cheongdo depart from Seoul Station, with the trip taking about four hours. Likewise, you could take the KTX to Daegu and then take one of the frequent buses to Cheongdo from Daegu Nambu lntercity Bus Terminal."

Bullfighting!~ Rodeo~!!! What better way to spend a nice weekend in the Korean countryside?

This is the bull-on-bull variety rather than the bull vs man one?

I'm not sure myself but either way, I'll try to make it. Sounds like it would be interesting to me.

Definitely bull-on-bull action:

"The Cheongdo Festival, being the home to more than half of the country's fighting bulls, is the biggest of Korea's bullfighting events. This year more than 150,000 are expected to attend. They will witness bouts between the bulls and their handlers, some lasting as long as an hour.

It is not all about strength and aggression - these carefully trained bulls are awarded points, in much the same way as martial arts, for such recognised moves as pushing, head attack, neck attack, side pushing, drawing horns, horns bumping, head pressing and the horns bumping and head attack combination. To the uninitiated the fight may be hard to follow, but after a while it will be impossible not to marvel at the dexterity and tactical awareness of these magnificent warriors. "

Anyone wants to make the trip this year? It's a really nice country fair with good food and unexpected, um, "attractions" like an all-transvestite band. About 2 1/2 hrs from Seoul via KTX to Daegu and then take a bus or cab to Cheongdo. Hope they have that mechanical bull again.

Double check those dates. Both the Cheongdo site and the Cheongdo festival site say it's 4/12 to 4/16.
