Some lady at school told me it's some holiday tomorrow but I haven't found any online that are tomorrow. Is this right? She said it's like a Labor Day in Korea and a lot of stores will be closed.

Home plus is only closed 2 days of the year (Chuseok and lunar new year) and they have been known to open on the new year.

They will be open tomorrow.

so how is it exactly living in that world of yours where you are so incredibly isolated, protected and oblivious you aren't even aware May 1st is an international day of expression for the working class aka Unions?

sigh, so much information is distorted, censored and ignored. it's a pity, really.

anyway, here's a link:

Korea has unions, the teachers' union (I've heard) is the strongest. Retail outlets very very rarely have unions anywhere, so don't worry, am sure all will be open for your capitalistic indulgence Laughing

Moosehead,
May 1st is Mayday. Its celebrated in communist countires as a workers day. Commies wrap a string around a maypole. The US has their Labor Day in September.

Mayday is not an official holiday in Korea. Hence its not highlighted in red on your calendar. Only some work places have it off. Actually in recent years it has been somewhat of a guerilla holiday in Korea considering South Korea's history of anti communism.

uh, I hate to say this, but May Day is most certainly celebrated in non-communist countries as well.

fyi, it is celebrated in the U.S. in a very big way, for instance, in New York City, the George Washington Bridge lights are turned on (completely), something that is reserved only for very special occasions.

and one doesn't have to be communist to acknowledge unions (I'm not and I certainly appreciate them), but so what if one is?

the lack of awareness of history and workers' rights effects everyone in some way or another, to deny this is just plain ignorant, that's all.

And the best way to remove that ignorance is to attack the ignorant, even with veiled physical threats, on the internet?

are you just plain stupid or what? Shocked Shocked

who made "veiled physical threats"?

I answered a question and gave a link for information - and if I want to make a remark about the ignorance of asking such a question - there's nothing wrong with that-

just because you are obviously among the ignorant and no doubt, don't give a hoot about the working class, how does that make you better than me? and in a position to attempt - yes attempt because your stupid remarks don't actually do anything but make you look stupid - to disparage me?

enough already, go read a book or something else you haven't done in an all-too-obvious long time Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

International Workers' Day

May Day can refer to various labor celebrations conducted on May 1 that commemorate the fight for the eight hour day. May Day in this regard is called International Workers' Day, or Labour Day. The choice of May 1st was a commemoration by the Second International for the people involved in the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago, Illinois. As the culmination of three days of labor unrest in the United States, the Haymarket incident was a source of outrage and admiration from people around the globe. In countries other than the United States and Canada, residents sought to make May Day an official holiday and their efforts largely succeeded. For this reason, in most of the world today, May Day has become an international celebration of the social and economic achievements of the labor movement. In some European countries, working people continue to use May Day parades as an opportunity to show disapproval with the government or to protest cuts in social programs. Some conservative countries, like Kuwait, do not celebrate May Day. Although May Day received its inspiration from the United States, the U.S. Congress designated May 1 as Loyalty Day in 1958 due to the day's appropriation by the Soviet Union.[4] Alternatively, Labor Day traditionally occurs sometime in September in the United States.

Happy May Day, workers.
