 To the best of my knowledge it was replaced by the NHIC ( http://www.nhic.or.kr ) just after the 1997/8 financial crunch and there currently is no such organization.
 
 IF it is listed as your insurer in a hakwon contract you can probably be assured that you will not have medical insurance other than the employer paying 50% of your bill (provided the malady was minor).
 
 Insist that NHIC be listed in the contract (AS REQUIRED BY LAW).
