|

I was fired on May 15th, but never received an exit order or anything. Never went to immi. My sojourn with that company would've/ends on March 2, 2009.
What are my fkg options there? Could I just stay until March 2nd, 2009?
It's something to ponder. There's not official exit order. There's no one telling me to leave. In all reality, I could probably just stay until the end of that sojourn (March 2nd, 2009).
Think about it. |

I made them fire me.
I got another job and I'm waiting for my criminal check, etc. Might take another week. I'll probably squeak in there in time if I have 30 days.
No, not going back to Freddy Beach. Fkn place. |

Think about what? Working illegally and getting caught or the huge fine that you might have to pay for overstaying. |

Why did you seek employment elsewhere? [I'm thinking better pay]

It depends on if your employer goes to immigration to say that you are no longer his employee. It is in the employer's best interest to release you from your visa if you aren't working for him, as then your visa isn't tied to his name. Once your boss goes to immigration, then you get a 30 day exit order. Some will say 14 days, but I think recently it has changed, and I know of 4 people personally that were given 30 days exit orders.
Obviously if he doesn't cancel your visa, you will have until until March 2, 2009 to stay in the country. |

You are required by law to report a material change in your status of sojourn within 14 days of the change.
When you make the report that you were fired, they would give you the exit order.
If your boss called them and made the report (as he is legally required to do as your sponsor) they already have notice of said event and the date of the change.
Failure on your part to get your butt into the immigration office is not a good thing.
Ignorance of the law is not a defense.
You're playing with fire and likely to get burned. |

Sheet. I was told that I was fired on May 15th. 14 days after would've been the 29th (last Thursday). Sheet. I'll have to go in tomorrow... |

Do you think I'll be ok if I go in on Monday? Or is that just up in the air? |

Can I go to any immi office, or does it have to be the one that gave me the visa? |

The simplest way is for you to go down with a representative from the school to cancel your visa. That is what we do when we cancel visas. Or, you can take letter of release into your boss, and have him sign. Then bring this letter down to immigration. If you need a standard letter of release, check one of my previous posts called 'Forms you might need" |

My former employer informed me that they have already informed immi and that I have to go in to make it official. I told him that I need to go in to get an exit order and he said that it's not an exit order. I think he doesn't really know what he's talking about, but looks like I can go in anytime 30 days after. I'll go in ASAP though. I don't think it'll be a problem.
Apparently it was cancelled on May 13th. Guess I have till June 13th. I'll just go in before that date. |

Let me know how you make out. I am curious to see if there is any enforcement on the 14 day rule. |
