It is time for you to STFU.

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/C/CANADA_GUANTANAMO_DETAINEE?SITE=AP

Quote:

TORONTO (AP) -- A 16-year-old captured in Afghanistan and held at Guantanamo Bay sobs during his questioning, holding up his wounded arms and begging for help in a video released Tuesday that provided the first glimpse of interrogations at the U.S. military prison.

"Help me," he cries repeatedly in despair.

The 10 minutes of video - selected by Omar Khadr's Canadian lawyers from more than seven hours of footage recorded by a camera hidden in a vent - shows Khadr weeping, his face buried in his hands, as he is questioned by Canadian intelligence agents over four days in 2003.

A. this belongs in Current Events

B. the OP clearly knows next to nothing about the Khadr case. Six years in Gitmo, and you're pointing to ten minutes of tape as evidence that the Canucks abused this kid?

How the hell does this negate the actions of the US? He was a 16 year old, and the US still can't put forth a solid case, it' disgusting.

Fair enough --when the US Govt will STKU about Castro.

"There's human rights violations in Cuba..." Yes there are--at Guantanamo Bay.

I don't think he's claiming it negates the actions of the US, at least I hope he isn't. I think all the OP is trying to point out is that Canadians shouldn't criticize the US for things that their government is also taking part in, unless they're going to apply the same criticisms to the Canadian government as well.

Does this also apply to Americans complaining about Gitmo?

Gitmo is a human rights travesty. It doesn't matter whether you or Canadian or American to see that one.

My reason for this post was for all those Canadians who decided to do a blanket criticism of the US and all of its citizens because of Gitmo and Iraq. There are many of us who disagree with what is happening there. I am not trying to negate anything that has been going on there either. I wanted to show that the Canadian gov't was involved and benefited from it.

Also, I am not saying Canadians are bad people now. They have as much say in these things as the average American, zero.

And I say it is our duty to speak up, both Americans and Canadians, when we see our respective governments to something they shouldn't. Do they have to listen to us? Obviously they don't, but we DO have the right to be heard.

Of course, but some people feel the need to speak up to me and other Americans about how horrible WE are for Gitmo. I am tired of the "Americans are all bad" BS.

Same can be said for all countries that have troops in Iraq/Afghanistan. If you have troops there, obviously your gov't is in support of the US, so you have no right to bitch at the US without also bitching about your own country in the same sentence (if it is about this subject).

I think you're being a little too sensitive. As the old saying goes 'sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me'. Move on!
