For those of you who didn't know this, there's a huge male surplus in Korea. There will be an estimated 400 000 - 500 000 single wild geese roaming the streets (of Korea, not just Seoul) by 2015-2020. (will provide link upon request)
There's also the mandatory 2-year military service and the charming corporate world. Take away cigarettes, soju and sam-gyop-sal and a couple million ajosshis would have no reason to live. (not necessarily unique to Korea)
I went to Ehwa woman's university the other day. I was having a blast up until I stopped by the washroom and this rotten creep who looked like something congealed in the gutter was puffing away in one of the stalls. Awesome!!
There is a handful of men out there who are taking to the side of the street in loving consideration of the hundreds of thousands of other people who also have the right to walk in the streets.
Most people, the good old ajosshis in particular, don't give a rat's ass about others. Being disgusting is all they know. They spit and hark and smoke and shove and send out weird animal noises, I'm guessing this is their mating call or something.
I'm not saying this is unique to Korea, but it sure is more pronounced here than in any other of the 14 countries I've been to, some of which I have lived in.
A true gentleman wouldn't spit right in front women or light up a cig by children. It's fine, I know they don't give a damn about me, but show some goddamn common courtesy in front of the ladies. You can ban smoking in public spaces but you can't change the deep-rooted values (confucianism) that put men above women, the morally corrupt corporate world (how come Koreans work the longest hours in the world, but have the lowest productivity among ALL OECD countries?)
How come Korea has the lowest birth rate in world? And also the lowest percent of foreign students in the entire world? Korea is however the largest producer and consumer of spirits in the world, again AwEsOmE!!
There is something fundamentally wrong with Korean men, they are the root of all the major social problems here.

This article is based on TOTAL population, including grandpa n grandma. It neglects to address the hundreds of thousands of single men between the ages of 15/46.

Korea is not mentioned here but the same goes for the Land of the Morning Calm.

Fixed your last line in order to make it universally compatible with the theory of gender feminism. |

I was teaching in an elem. school and noticed fewer than a quarter of the class were female students, the rest being male in EVERY class I taught.
How did that happen I wonder?
There will be a big problem with securing wives for K-fellows in future. |

It's interesting that you've traveled so far and been exposed to so much, yet somehow have never considered the possibility that "common courtesy" isn't really 'common' at all...

Think carefully about what you just said...
I don't mean think cyclically, I mean critically.
When you're finished, edit your post. |

I'm guessing the previous Korean heavy preference for male heirs.

Not if they continue to be allowed to buy them from Thailand and the PHP. |

Why not provide the number for the current male surplus rather than the projected one, if you are saying there is a huge male surplus in Korea (right now)? |

Wow. Good job moron. He never said total men and women.
Including men over 65 doesn't make sense as he was talking about:

Right now there are 650,000 extra men from 15-64. I am sure his number is fairly accurate for men that are 20-50.
Age structure
* 0-14 years: 18.3% (male 4,714,103/female 4,262,873)
* 15-64 years: 72.1% (male 18,004,719/female 17,346,594)
* 65 years and over: 9.6% (male 1,921,803/female 2,794,698)
[edit] Growth
* Birth rate: 9.93 births/1,000 population (2007 est.)
* Total fertility rate: 1.25 children born/woman (August 2007 est.)
* Death rate: 5.99 deaths/1,000 population (2007 est.)
* Infant mortality rate: 6.05 deaths/1,000 live births (2007 est.)
* Net migration rate: 0 migrant(s)/1,000 population (2007 est.)
[edit] Sex ratio
* at birth: 1.13 male(s)/female
* under 15 years: 1.12 male(s)/female
* 15-99 years: 1.03 male(s)/female
* 65 years and over: 0.63 male(s)/female
* total population: 1.01 male(s)/female (2000 est.)
[edit] Life expectancy
* total population: 79.05 years
* male: 75.7 years |

Are you for real? What does morality have anything to do with low productivity?

They don't. Japan, to name just one, is lower. Regardless, do you think it has anything to do with the skyrocketing monthly costs of education? |

I included the 15-65 statistic, where men and women are almost equal! Learn to read bud.
Sex Ratio
At birth: 1.08 male(s)/female
Under 15 years: 1.106 male(s)/female
15-64 years: 1.038 male(s)/female
65 years and over: 0.688 male(s)/female
Total population: 1.01 male(s)/female (2008 est.)
You know that ratio is closer together than most countries on the planet?
OP is just a troll. He wants to irrationally hate on Korean men. |

Primary school in Korea is free for all. Middle and High schools have a nominal fee. |

OP was making a projection, one that jives completely with your numbers. |

Hagwons are not free. Neither are the cram schools many high schoolers attend. Nor the summer vacation study trips made abroad. |
