Went to the new Angel-in-us Coffee behind Lotte shopping center in Daejeon today.

They have an oven where you can get freshly baked (from frozen me thinks) "pies" (look more like a turnover/danish) that are so f!@#ing good. Closest thing to a homemade pie I've had for a loooong time.

That's some good shyte.

Yum, I must try that! Wish I could bake my own but I don't have an oven. By the way, anyone knows where I could find cupcakes in Seoul? I looked everywhere, never found them. I must eat some.

Making pies is not particularly hard to do. The hardest part is making a good crust (as opposed to one that will just have to do). I'm convinced only grannies can make a good crust.

Speaking of grannies... here's one more use for vinegar, the secret recipe from one of my favorite aunts: Use a teaspoon or so of vinegar for a flakier crust.

Cheeseface, it sounds like a pasty you are describing? Are you Welsh?

The Dunkin Donuts at COEX has them. The one by Paris Baguette and Cold Stone, on the way to Samseong Station. There's another inside by the food court but I don't think it has them.

Ovens are not really expensive. OOps, I mean table top ones. You can get a decent size one for 80,000 won. After you roast a few chickens and bake some potatoes, the price will be made up.

Cupcakes are easy to do, just use any cake recipe.

If the poster found a good place for pies, great. i can not make a pie.
But, I do make pita bread all the time, and you do not need an oven for that. It is made on top of the stove. taste better then anything from a package

If anyone wants, I will post the recipie

PITA BREAD

This recipe is really not hard to do. The instructions are super long cause I am making it very detailed. If you would like, send me your email address and I will be happy to send you photos.

Follow this exactly. After you make it, you will never buy pita bread. I had friends over and made the balls and they each made a pita bread as they wanted to eat one.

Mix together 2 cups of flour, one and one half teaspoons of baking powder, and one teaspoon of salt. I shake this in a ziploc bag cause I never can mix it well.

Put this in a large bowl, and add 2 teaspoons of any kind of oil, and mix it well. (Do NOT use margarine or butter, for some reason it burns)

Slowly add 3/4 cup of warm milk. You can use soy milk, but if you use soy milk minus 2 table spoons of the soy milk and add 2 table spoons of water. I have done this.

Mix well, but it will not take long, maybe one minute. You will get a sticky ball.

Rub about one table spoon of flour in your hands, and pick this up. Sort of kneed it in your hands a few seconds so it is not so sticky. On a floured surface (I use one of those flexable cutting boards) put the dough on, and kneed it for about one minute. (OK, maybe 2 minutes, but no longer then that)

You will get a firm but soft ball.

Do not over work this, if it is too sticky add one table spoon of flour when you kneed it. But remember, this should be soft, but not sticky.

Place in a clean bowl and cover with a damp, not wet cloth, and let rest for 20 minutes. do not let the cloth touch the dough. I use an old t shirt or pillow case to cover the dough. (don't worry, the t shirt or pillow case is used only to cover dough with, not to wear or sleep with)

You MUST let this dough rest.

Break or cut the dough into 8 pieces, and roll into balls. 10 if you want smaller breads. Not bigger, they will not cook well.

Remember, this is dough, not clay. Do not over work it.

Let the balls rest on a floured pillow case or t shirt for 10 minutes, and cover them. The cover can touch them. The balls should not touch eachother.

NOW you are ready to cook them.

take a ball, put it in your hands and flatten it. It will feel ;like pizza dough. Put the flattened ball on a floured (very little flour, when I say Floured" I just mean a dusting of flour) surface. You can use a flexible cutting board. take a chop stick and roll it into a thin circle. thin, but not so thin, maybe 1/8 inch thick.

Heat a non stick or iron pan. Medium to high flame, until the pan is hot, but not super hot. Put the circle on it, and wow! You will see all these bubbles.

Cook about thirty seconds, and then flip it over. Let cook about 15 seconds and then press it down. It will puff up. Push it a few times. After you make one or 2 you will see. Let it cook for maybe 15 more seconds.

turn it over and see if its cooked. it will be brown but not burned. maybe you want to cook it a bit longer, but I mean a bit, not a lot.

This only seems long because I wrote it out clearly. (I think)

My kids made this when they were 6 years old and I have made this when I was drunk. Never came out bad. (except for the time I forgot to put in the baking powder)

Using a chopstick as a rolling pin, this I'm going to have to try.

Smile thanks!

Well, when you have 6 people, one rolling pin and paper cups, you use chop sticks. They work...

I still would like to go to the "Angel in us" and get some pie...
