I want to know about the criminal background check and how to get it done.

I checked out:
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=106360

and it seems that there are different types of background check. My situation is slightly different to what other people are experiencing because I am NOT in Korea now. I am back in London now and I am unemployed looking for a job in a University in Seoul (by the way I am a British citizen)

What do I have to do to get the check?

How long does it take?

How much does it cost?

How do I get it apostilled and notarized?

Thanks

You'll get all your answers if you perform a proper site search. There's a post called Dave's ESL Cafe Search Tool just a few pages back. Check it out.

If it's a university position you want, avoid Korea. Try Japan or Taiwan. The conditions will be better, and you won't need a criminal background check.

try disclosure scotland or http://www.cbscreening.co.uk/ (think they use the same thing) - you'll probably need to send them a copy of your passport photo page and a bill showing your address to prove it's you.

took quite a few weeks, though i did it at a time when all the teachers were going through the crb process too.

basic disclosure is all you need - costs 36

for the apostille i went through apostille.org which cost 64 - they did all the notarising and apostille process. basically just sent off an order form and the crb check. took about a week to return

i know you can do this for cheaper using the FCO in milton keynes (27) but before that happens you'll need to pay for the notarisation at a solicitors - cost depending on each individual solicitor.
taking it in person may be easier if you're in london as i believe it'll be apostilled in half a day. last time i checked, posting to the FCO was gonna take quite a while for them to get round to things
