Is Obama's presidency going to be the major beginning of a fourth era?

An interesting viewpoint on American political history that ponders the question:

Interesting article.

I'm especially struck by the alternating Hamiltonian and Jeffersonian periods. In my opinion the writer was over doing the 72 year cycle, but interesting nonetheless.

It does seem a bit odd that the cycles would happen to all be roughly the same length.

Yeah. Something tells me that we can't expect major technological innovations to happen on cue every 72 years. I think that was a weak part of the thesis.

However, the idea of a Hamiltonian activist government style followed by a Jeffersonian backlash might have something to it. I wouldn't mind reading more about the authors' idea.
