So I finally have some money to buy a computer.
I am not really a big gamer and when I do play I have never bothered with cranking up the resolution.
I do watch a lot of movies and I run a few GIS and statisical programs. I would like some thing that I won't have to upgrade for a while.
Could you recommend some components.
processor -
ram - 4 gigs of ??? (2 2 gig sticks right?)
motherboard -
HD - 500/640 seagate
video card -
psu -
DVD -dual layer generic
looking at spending 500-600 w/o monitor
I am also looking at getting a nice 22-24 inch monitor that I can also conect my xbox up to
Cheers for the help |

You could probably get away with an e7300 cpu and a 9500gt gpu if your budget is tight. Keep the 4 gigs of ram though. I used to run ArcView/ ArcGIS/ ENVI/ PCI Geomatics on a P4 w. a 6600gt gpu quite well. |

I did as well but some of the high def sat images really push it and running statistical worksheets with 50000+ rows can take a while. plus i like to game a little bit.

MBO: Asus P5KC
HDD: WD 640g x2 (cheapest now) WD 640GB Caviar Blue WD6400AAKS (SATA2/7200/16M)
http://www.danawa.com/product/list.html?defSite=PC&cate1=861&cate2=877&cate3=0&cate4=0
PSU: Zalman 600w (actually, saw a 600w PSU on another site for sale...if ya want I can send ya the link...maybe offer him 30,000 and save some money)
Ram: CORSAIR DDR2 4G PC2-6400 CL4 TWIN2 DHX (2Gx2) 120,000w
http://pc.danawa.com/price.html?defSite=PC&cate1=861&cate2=874
cpu: E8400 or q6600....about the same price
So the mb is about ~120
the E8400 `~240
the 4850 ~240
ram ~120
PSU ~30-40
case ~50????
missing anything?
total ~700ish |
