Hey is there anyone out there w/ an F2 visa who can explain a couple of visa/pension things to me?
Pretty please?
With sugar on top?
*Edit*
OK well here goes
1) When switching from an E2 to an F2, how do I get my pension? Do I need to leave korea? Is there something else I need to do?
2) If my contract ends mid-april, and I'm getting married in May, what do I do in the interum (except for signing the papers early, because I can't do that). Do I need to go to Japan and get a tourist visa? Is there an "engagement" visa?
3) How long does it take to switch from an E2 to an F2?

~ Do you think I can request the pension money on my way out in May and receive it 2-3 months later in Korea?
~ Can I receive it whilst working for another company (if I decided to sign on with someone in the interim)??
~ Are there any laws that forbid you from receiving the pension if you are still in-country, working or not working?? |
As far as i know, both for Koreans and non-Koreans, you have to provide proof of plans to exit the country to request your pension payout.
If you're staying on here and working for another company, they won't give it to you. |

Right, but if you notice I'm leaving for a couple of weeks in May. What if I left on a one-way ticket, but then returned? Think I could fly under the radar?
I have a friend who did leave "final exit" once and received it in a Korean bank. |

Yeah I'm sure you can get away with it.
You were planing to leave - and left.
You came back - you'll start paying into the pension fund again.
No big deal. |

Thanks Captain,
That meshes with some other vets. You're leaving, request. You leave and return, but still should get it. Won't be looked into so deeply. Thx again. All I can do is try, I suppose. |

So Cerriowen,
You gotta' be persistent on these boards sometimes, if not redundant at times. They'll get around to your questions |

Would Pidgin have to give up his F2 status? Not that it would be hard to get it back again, but I am curious because I am on F5 and that was a wee bit harder to get than the F2. |

I just applied for my F-5 and it took only about 15 minutes to get all the paperwork done. No mention of interviews or anything else just that they'd mail my ARC and passport back to me in 1 to 2 months time. We did have our young son with us so maybe that helped as it was pretty obvious that it wasn't a marrige of convenience plus I've had an F-2 for 4 years now.
What sort of stuff did you have to do Kimchieluver to get your F-5? It seemed easier than when I applied for my F-2. |
