The 2nd link failed to mention the need to test E-7 visa holders, that's the visa CPN was on (even though he would've passed a CBC). |

Why the hell was he on an E7? Was he working as a professional, teaching on the side, or was it a shady hagwon? |

ATEK is alive! I wonder if there's anything others can do to help this excellent idea they have; does anyone have contact information? |

he was on an E-1 (doing a summer/winter camp?) if i remember correctly - E-7s aren't for teaching work and are already pretty hard to come by... |

Right, gotcha. So, do E-1's have to go through the E-2 rigmarole? |

Don't. I bet ATEK will be disbanded by the goverment and all it's members will be deported. Only a matter of time. |

Been on an F2-1 for almost two years. With ATEK's hard work, I guess I can look forward to doing a criminal records check and drug test as well. Thanks guys. Keep up the great work! |

I know too many E2's who just relish the idea of forcing F-2's and F-5's to go through the same rigamorole they have to. Instead of challenging the rule itself which is discriminatory, they'd rather see everyone suffer. Then they complain about Klogic when they themselves show none.
Anyone who is here for more than one year should only have to submit documents once. Due to the idiocy of bureaucracy, they have to submit every year. Ok that sucks. What if I've been here 10 years? Thanks to these morons I may have to spend money to go home and deal with the same crap. YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG TOOLIOS
For one thing you need to get it through your head that an F2 and F5 visa is not an employment visa, its a residency visa; two different things all together. With this visa I can engage in whatever work I want. I have gladly submitted any documents that a Korean has had to, and if need be will submit one criminal record check from my own country.
They just don't seem to get the amount of baloney so many of us have to go through: how despite being here for eons and supporting a family, I still face the same crap they do when I get a job, go to the bank, try to receive services from businesses etc etc et al. Those who make their approach to this problem that all waygooks should go through this process need a good slap up side the head, since they obviously cannot begin to understand how their situation doesn't resemble mine in the least. |

What about those on F5s?
I've been here for close to 9 years.. this is the only place that considers me a permanent resident.
My mum asked our family lawyer what I would need to do IF they want a CRC from me and my lawyer basically said that I won't be able to get one cos home (UK) doesn't consider me a permanent resident or something like that...
Am I going to get kicked out if I can't supply a CRC??? |

I'm an F-5 who has been in Korea for a long time. Personally, I've said from the very start, all foreigners (any visa type) who have legally lived in Korea for some period of time (2 years, 5 years, etc.), with no criminal record here, should be exempt from any kind of background check. I have several E-2 friends (and several F-visa friends) who have been here, and abided by the laws, for more than a decade. |

You cannot extend an E1 visa to do a summer or winter camp at another location. An E1 visa only permits you to work as a full time lecturer at the uni sponsoring your visa.
For that very reason I knew of one uni teacher who refused to change his visa from E2 to E1 and rather went through the hoops to keep the E2. He could legally make alot more money doing the camps in the vacation.
The word at the time of the CPN thing was that he had an E7 visa. Difficult, though not impossible to get if a company has enough influence on immigration ... and they could still try to put you into some teaching work.
That the regulation came down on the E2 visa from the CPN case, had to be the strangest thing about it. |

I have wondered about this also. Are they really concerned for the "safety" of the children (and I am sure some are) or do some of them simply want F-series visa holders to go through what E-series holders have to go through out of spite?
By the way, both Neil and McDowell were on E-series visas (teaching) visas. To my knowledge no F-series holder has been accused of a crime against children.
For the record I think the CBC should be a requirement of the education ministry, not immigration (though I believe immigration has the right to ask if they so wish). I also think that for people who have been here for a certain length of time, a KOREAN criminal check should be sufficient. |
